Do you like levelling up your main character to the point of almost indestructible?

I do it all the time, especially in games like Final Fantasy, where there's usually (at least) one boss who can challenge a fully levelled party anyway, but I tend to do this in every game it's possible to, at some point. Mostly to show to friends who also play, to prove that I will always be superior to them. Or that I skip a Godawful amount of class.

There is nothing more enjoyable to me, than taking me level 60 Renegade Vanguard Commander Shepard into a room full of like 20 geth with nothing but a pistol and biotic lift. Especially since before he got injured alot when he was a low level. So yeah. I like levelling up to the point where my character is basically a demi-god.

You are never indestructible in final fantasy games.

Ruby weapon, Emerald weapon, Ozma, Omega weapon, to name but a few

Ruby's weak; he just has a ton of HP. Emerald is a pretty fun challenge, though, and Ozma...hurts.

I only ever did that once.

In shin megami tensei: persona 3 fes.
I created a Helel and Satan combo that had spell mastery, and victory cry.
That, combined with the fusion spell Armageddon, killed pretty much everything on one shot.

Yeah, it actually usually happens without me trying to.

And sometimes, the main character is an overpowered son of a ***** no matter what you do.

It depends on the game really. In RPGs, I like to become incredibly powerful, but I prefer some balance so that it's not boring. I adventure games, I love the point in the game where you get all of the widgets and powerups to the point where everything is piss-easy.

If anything I like to be slightly underleveled, if you go through a game just killing everything without an issue it gets a bit dull, imo.

It's a mix, it's really fun to break the game after you've experienced it. That's why I liked Crackdown's little break the game DLC, fun for after you were done with it

It honestly depends on the combat system at work - invincible characters can work beautifully if the combat itself is enjoyable.

This is tricky to pull off since you have to incorporate a lot of different elements - such as knockbacks, context, and above all diversity.

The best games are the ones which give you a plethora of wonderfully psychotic tools to kill your enemies, a nice variety of enemies to use them on, and a well-made world in which to do your thing.

People play games to have fun (save for a few who are kind of missing the point) and if you've made the combat fun, why take us out of the immersion and impart a death penalty?

I like levelling them and getting stronger, but then I feel like I've wasted the character.

Loads of flash games on the internet do this too; you spend half an hour levelling up / buying upgrades, then when once you pass a critical level:difficulty ratio, the game becomes boringly easy.

Let's take Kingdom Hearts 2, in the first one Sora was strong but not overpowered and the game gave you some difficult times. In Kingdom Hearts 2 Sora is overpowered and as some skills that make Kingdom Hearts 2 a kiddie game with a over complicated history... So yes, a overpower main character can make things too easy.

I like my characters to be weak and fast, more than anything.
Actually if my character is a strong bad ass, there better be a good reason for it e.g. God of War, Bioshock 2, Halo etc.

So as strong as what fits the story.

Just Cause 2 you are overpowered the entire game and it is a lot of fun.
Ranbow 6 vegas 2 you are underpowered the entire game and it is fun but frustrating as hell.

So i will say it depends on the game. In general however I think Yes: It tends to be fun
RV6 2 is easy with a co-op partner, thanks to the super respawn powers you get.

OT: I prefer some kind of challenge, just not a masochistic one.
