After seeing the recent plug for the Yahtzee song (which I'm a bit apprehensive about, unless Rebecca can swear like a sailor) in the recent ZP, I checked out most of the Muses; a feature of the Escapist I had long ignored. I wasn't particularly overwhelmed by what I saw and heard, but I suppose it's just not necessarily 'my type' of music. So, being a musician and gamer with highly varied taste, I thought I'd ask the Escapist community for their collective gamer opinion on the quality of Rebecca's Muses(poll), and musical gaming parodies as a whole(discussion).

So, what do you think about gaming and music mixing? And do you enjoy it more as a humorous parody, or a straight-faced artistic piece?

Where's the option for "Just plain bad"? I didn't like them much, or at all really.
Nothing against her, but it's not very good.

After a season of gamedogs I've really started to like everything else a lot more.
Although I don't know Jack about music I do like her songs, they are charming and clever.
It's always nice to hear the opinions of an intelligent person on a subject I care about.
When it come to art I prefer bridges rather than walls so I embrace both humorous parody and serious artistic expression.

Well the idea of bad can't really be applied unless it is bad. Everyone can taste but we all have different tastes. I enjoyed every track and I think she is pretty talented. I'd probably buy the album if I didn't have to get a digital copy.

I don't particularly like any of them.

I don't ever laugh at them, so I don't watch them.

I don't hate them either, I just kinda avoid them

She's pretty good as an artist, but the music she makes (Both genre and video game theme) don't appeal to me.

I've watched all the RMM's, but I agree that while usually being entertaining, some of them are repetitive and/or kinda generic. But some are really good, because they have messages in them that I enjoy and respect.

I really like the Velvet Assassin track, although I can never decide whether I should be laughing or not.

^This.

I don't find them particularly interesting, so I avoid them. Nothing against Rebecca, the videos are just not my cup of tea.

Pretty much this. I listened to several of her songs and didn't find any of them particularly good.

I don't like them so I don't watch them, but if other people like them, that's great and I'm glad they enjoy it.

Wow, I wonder where all her fans are? Surely they're marshalling their arguments in order to defen their favourite songstress? :p

I'll be honest, initially I wasn't too gone on the videos.... But I didn't hate them by any means. I found them an interesting angle- nobody else does this on this site so it was a novel approach.

AS time wore on, her songs have become about much more than reviewing games which I think isa great direction for her. Her recent "M" trilogy is easily some of her finest so far, and I hope she keeps banging them out for some considerable time :)

Also- her style is very close to a singer my ex used to play CONSTANTLY, and quite frankly, drive me insane.

However, Rebecca's always had this knack of soothing my seething temper and it's incredibly heartening to see a talented, attractive young musician take such an interest in games insuch a creative fashion.
And remember- she does most of this stuff on her own, too.
