************PLEASE READ & THINK BEFORE POSTING*****************
---'cus I'm actually interested in your honest opinion (even if it's only "BIO FTW!"---
(ever so slightly inspired by the newest "Unskippable"- Frac/ture :p )

Sooooo.... when you see, play or read sci-fi, there's a lot of people who have had "improvements" done to their bodys. People with some sort of geneticaly improved lungs that can breathe just about anything, and eyes that can see in the dark (neko-vision =^_^=). On the other side, people with bones of metal, and things that let them communicate with computers and such.

And also, to cause more confusion but lessen the douchbag level, consider people who already depend on artificial organs to survive and live happy lives. A lot of people with artificial hearts and plastic limbs out there, that didn't get much of a choice.

Is there any one of these particular categories you think is more awesome than the other? Moraly superior? Aesthetically superior? Would you rather have awesome cat eyes (hit with the ladies, no doubt), or awesome cyborg eyes (omg lazorz!!)? And if you lost a limb, would you rather have a new one grown, or built?

Personally, I think both types are awesome. But I actually tend towards metal, for a pure aesthetical standpoint. A bit strange perhaps... but that's how I roll.

Note: my examples suck, for both bio and mech. Feel free to come with ideas and examples, and debate what should be in which category. I'll try to pay attention to this thread for a while, and make two lists as things progress. As you've probably guessed, a lot of things can be in both categories. I'll try to pull out what is unique for either.

Mech- HUD in your eyes (HeadsUpDisplay. pretty shure you can't Bio that)
Bio- fertility/breeding (not sex, but breeding)
Other?-

NOTE!
BIO - NO PLASMIDS! (changes to BODY, not laws of physics  )
MECH - NO POWER-ARMOUR! (changes to BODY, we all fight for the emperor regardless XD )

**UPDATE**
Mech leading slightly now (under mix). I guess there aren't as many furries here as I thought :p. Good to see that bio still get some love tho.
130-ish votes so far. Will be interesting to see if this post will speed up when the timezones change, or fall into the abyss of forgotten threads. I'm going to bed, will check back tomorrow. happy surfing =^_^=

**UPDATE 2**
New day, and Bio is getting some much needed love. Mech still ahead, and Mix is still winning.
We've finaly had at least one comment from someone who doesn't compleatly like the idea of these bodymods, but still would use them for survival if needed. We've also had at least one comment from someone who wants bio cat-ears =^_^= gotta show nekomimis some love.

The biggest conflict that has come up, is my poor covering on subjects like cybernetics and nanotech.

First of, user Fridge mentioned cybernetics, thinking of the Strogg from Quake. Appearantly there's some inbedded and inbred augments in those things.
My Quake lore is very rusty (it's a shooter, isn't it? :p) What do you guys think? What really falls under the category cybernetics? Is cybernetics a different category? Is it something you'd vote for? What are your thoughts? :)

Second: Nano-tech. (I suspect most people think of DeusEx here)
I just want to start of by saying that I'm not well versed in this stuff, but if I'm not horrebly mistaken, there's two real kinds of nano technology at the moment: nano-robotics and biochemical nano-technology.
Anyone care to correct me here? Also, at such tiny scales, where does the bio and mech line blurr?

---NOTE---
with a couple of pictures and good videogame examples so far, I would like to remind you that using relatable examples are AWESOME! and therefore everyone should consider adding pictures or writing about examples where your preffered bodymodds are presented in whole or in part :) it makes for a more colourfull forum-thread

***UPDATE 3***
While walking through Oslo, something hit me. I've now added breeding to Bio perks. Any thoughts?

I'll go with cybernetic augmentation anyday. Why would I replace my own fragile biological kit with something else that needs fed, gets sick, and dies anyway? Not only that, but biological tech has never equalled mechanical technology once it's got going. You show me a bird that can fly as fast as a plane. Any superiorities we have with eyesight or hearing are fleeting - there'll soon be mechanical systems that can hear, smell, see, touch, and taste with greater fidelity than we could ever believe.

I would employ both biological modification and cybernetic implants to turn myself into an unstoppable force. I would then make a killing beating up idiots in underground cage matches or something like that because hey, whats the point of superpowers if you cant beat people up with them?

That is why I would want cybernetic enhancements, you can easily replace or upgrade them. If you had a robotic arm, you could upgrade it to have an extendable knife or something (plus not many people would fight with a part robot). And they are not as fragile...

I'd go for mechanical, or cybernetic (sadly not covered). I don't like the idea of biological mods, but then I probably played Bioshock and System shock too much.
Plus I love the idea of being able to hack or surf the web without using a pc or laptop like in Ghost In The Shell :)

cybernetics, as far as I know, are either created using metal and plastic, or a mix of that and biological components. I could be wrong tho :S, correct me if I am.

maybe I should've covered that in the intro...

you have to really take into account what you are talking about before you can really choose. there is a big difference in a game having bio/tech upgrades to a human and a real life person. in games these augmentations are normally out of self preservation, forced, accidentally or whatever, but always to be thrust into a combat scenario, thus to make a game out of it. whereas if you are thinking about real life, normal people don't randomly get thrust into situations like that but as Ithos pointed out, we do have the medical benefits. i can't see a lot of middle ground between weaponized augs in a video game and medical assistance in reality, so i ask is this just a question about general concepts, or placing yourself in a game and placing yourself in reality?

You guys are too small minded. The only true future is stripping oneself of all physical constraints and ascending into a state of pure energy!

This, plus I'm a Biochemist, not an engineer, so I am better suited to fully understand/be responsible for Bio upgrades, so I'd be more inclined to trust them.
