I really like RPG shooters and loved fallout but at the same time I also like horror shooters, and I particularly loved the hospital level of bioshock. I have been meaning to get mass effect for a while now because it's a critically aclaimed shooter RPG, but now I'm reconsidering that choice. I saw a trailer for dead space 2 and my freind gave it great reviews, but I don't feel like playing the first game before I play the second, so if I get dead space I will only get the second one. as for mass effect, because your profile carries over to the next game (which is awesome by the way) I will get the first, and then the second if I like it. which should I pick escapist community?

Geez this is like askin what testicle do you like more. Both are good and your life is incomplete without either one so get both (and DS1 if you haven't I just picked it up dirt cheap new)

I am a story nut, so I will tell you to get Dead Space, then get Dead Space 2 IF you decide Dead Space wins out. It's not vital to play Dead Space in order to enjoy Dead Space 2, but you will get more out of it--especially on one level in Dead Space 2. Not going to spoil it for you, but if you don't play the first one, you're missing out.
That said, I vote for Mass Effect.

1) It's cheaper--and by now, any copy you get new includes the DLC for free.
2) It has serious replay value. Depending on your play style, you can have a different playthrough each time.
3) As you pointed out, it carries over to Mass Effect 2, which you will need to get and should also be cheaper than Dead Space 2
4) Mass Effect 3 has a release date, where as Dead Space 3 does not. Meaning, many as well get the games that you know are going to be wrapped up out of the way now, and then hopefully by the time you finish both Dead Space and Dead Space 2, there will be information on Dead Space 3. Because there's going to be a third one.

So, there's my logic. If you can however, get both series.

Well Mass Effect makes it so that when you beat the game, you can transfer your character's data over to the next game. And considering the several different choices you can make in the first game, that's a ton of possible things that can happen in the second. (Story wise anyway.)

I've seen LP's of the Dead Space games, and while they do look good, I'm not sure there's much to do after beating the games the first time. (Although the second has online multiplayer.)

Personally, I'd choose Mass Effect. Although I'm slightly biased since I've never played the DS games for myself, so it's still up to you.

Mass Effect. By now it's cheap, and it's not a linear shooter like Dead Space. Don't get me wrong, Dead Space 1 & 2 are good games in their own right, but Mass Effect will give you more gameplay for your money, and it's glorious.

I'm not voting because I haven't played Dead Space 2, but getting Mass Effect is well worth it.

Warning! The game ain't perfect, and combat is sadly a bit buggy. But it's beautifully epic and it'll make ME2 make sense (btw, this is why you should play the first one: importing a character is cool and all, but the second one is so much better when you understand the back story and care about the characters). They've also somehow managed to create a space-age universe that is both retro and original. And once you play through the first one, you'll find that they fixed all of the problems when they made ME2, so it's like the original experience made perfect.

On the other hand, Dead Space was great and I've heard that the sequel's good too, so I'm gonna go with the others on this thread and say get both if you can afford it.

Mass Effect is a slog. The only reason to play it is to carry your profile into ME2. I would really reccommend playing Dead Space 1 before Dead Space 2 because alot of the appreciation for DS2 comes from seeing what they improved from DS1 (which is a great game in its own right.)

Mass Effect is one of the best games ever made, particularly the PC version.

Dead Space 2 is only average, perhaps slightly above average.

Easy choice if you enjoy RPGs.

thankfuly 80%+ agree with me that ME1 blows DS/2 out of the water, in just about every way... oh except comically, that one is hands down to Dead Space.

Buy ME1, 'then' ME2 (both on PC).
