I haven't downloaded it yet because I moved my main x-box 360 upstairs which has no internet so I'm unable to install the new update or the skyrim patches.
BUT WHY DOES IT MATTER!!! it doesn't affect the games at all and thats what you have a GAME system for!
The GAMES, not the beginning interface for the console.

Anyone else agree?

I love the new look I just can't stand the beacons, I don't find it necesary to be told EVERY time my friend pops in the same game as me.

I actually really enjoy the new look, but then again I am a big can of the Metro UI that microsoft is pushing onto all their devices.
AH a fellow admirer of the Metro UI! Almost felt like I was the only one out there.

It is simple and beautiful. I plan to buy a Windows Phone 7 after my current contract is up.

To those decrying the dashboard because it was changed "just to work better with Kinect", that isn't true. It was changed largely due to the addition of the new apps system, and all of those wonderful things that came with it. The previous dashboard could have been updated to function with Kinect quite easily, and if that was their only goal, that's all they would have done. No, this update was to facilitate the new apps/channels/services that are now available - the 360's first real step towards becoming a truly unified home media entertainment system, and it was a good first step at that. The Kinect functionality was just added at the same time.

Basically, if you don't like it, hate on it for the right reasons. If you don't like the way it looks or can't adapt to how it browses, that's fine, but don't take it as another opportunity to rag on Kinect, it just makes you look uninformed.

As for my opinion, the update added a lot of fantastic things, and I'm already a subscriber to many of the services it added, so I'm getting a lot of use out of it. It's aesthetically appealing, works wonderfully and smoothly with Kinect, and the ads don't bother me, though getting to XBLA and browsing the titles is a process that's a little longer than I'd like.

I HAVE a computer. My fancy little box what I uses for the killing of tiny digital men doesn't need to be my computer. I dont need it to be my phone. I dont need it to be anything but an expensive toy i plug in to my televsion and make the funny little bear jump over a chasm.

I realize you aren't the cause or even necessarily an advocate, but your post provided the specific example i needed

It's good. There's no more ads than there were last time, so I don't know why people are complaining about that. Some gamers react to ads like the Wicked Witch of the West reacts to water. It's weird.

Anyway, it has a slick look and I like how the games library is laid out now. I can flip through them like I do a physical collection. It's a nice touch. And I like the changes to Netflix (even though it seems to be missing some movies. I couldn't find the George C Scott Christmas Carol, and I know it was there last year.

Games and Netflix, that's what I use my Xbox for. So these changes are for the better.

I enjoy my Android too much to make the switch to WP...but I did root it and have a theme that gives my phone the UI. Think I like it better because I can use custom tiles as well.

I don't blame you. I plan to keep both. :) My current phone is a Nexus S, but somehow I can't keep my eyes off of WP7.

Wow, alot of people seem to hate it.
I like the change. The previous dash was good, but this is just as awesome. Same features, new layout. Its cool, but doesn't really change how we (i) do stuff.

It seems to be a lot faster, I like that at least. I've noticed that the ads are now plastered in the center of the screen, however. I don't like it, but I'm not really surprised. It was only a matter of time until the 360 turned into a billboard that you have to pay a monthly fee for.

i like most of it, but am disappointed that the netflix viewing parties are gone. My friends and I used to do movie and tv show nights since we live states apart and it makes it annoying to have to coordinate button presses...(plus we have silly senses of humor and loved the avatar emotes while you were watching lol)

I don't have Kinect; but I like it. I can start up the game in the drive quicker and the recently played list lets me get to Netflix and the downloadable games I've been playing faster as well.

It did screw up my connection to Xbox live for a while; but after about thirty minutes of me trying in vain to fix the problem the console mysteriously fixed itself.

What did Netflix Party actually do? I never used it.

you and friends that had netflix could all watch the same thing, and your avatars would be sitting in a theater on the screen, made for great MST3K type movie viewing

Hate it with a burning passion. It amazes me. Just amazes me. The last one was close enough to being perfect, this new one... just.... my heart dropped.I never thought my dashboard even could be so ugly.....

I have a computer too. I don't much care to watch movies on it (or play games on it for that matter), and it isn't placed in an area of my house that makes playing music from it suitable when I have friends over. I don't pirate movies or TV shows from the internet, so having a library of them available to me, on my TV, on a service I already pay for, via a device I already own, is a tremendous bonus. When I play games, I enjoy doing so with a lot of my friends - both real life friends and friends I've made simply by playing with them a lot on XBL. This makes the new social features a big boon for me.

Your objections that the 360 is becoming something you don't want it to be are, frankly, pitiful. No one is forcing you to use these features or charging you anything for their existence. The 360 still plays games the same way it used to, and no features have been removed. This update has been a fantastic thing for me and no doubt countless other people, and may well herald the future of game consoles. Your senseless hand-wringing and impotent skyward fist-shaking at the fact that this change is changing your games console into something more for those who want it is tremendously immature. I got a huge amount of things I can use out of this update, as did many people. You would deny us all these much appreciated features, fight against and decry them, all because you want games consoles to always and forever be nothing more than games consoles? Pathetic.

I now have to only press one button to play the disc in the Xbox. The sheer amount of effort I don't have to exert is staggering. I like it for that.
