From the choices above it'll be the crossbow/tomahawk.

But the choices above are a bit flawed in that they seem concerned with the realistic shooters only and Blackops specifically.

The first thing that popped into my head when I read the title was Unreal Tournament's Ripper. It's only real use is throwing people off cliffs with the alternate fire and you have to be pretty spot on with your aiming to make it work. Plus as far as I know its the only gun in an fps that allows you to headshot and decapitate yourself (the blades from its normal fire bounce off walls).

Sniping and Shotgunning usually take the most skill. With sniping, you got that one shot to take them out and don't have the luxury of automatic fire to hit them quickly if you miss on the first shot. With shotgunning, you really got to know how to maneuver around the map to get into advantageous positions without getting killed on the way there.

Funny how the most skilled playing styles result in you being called a noob most often by all the ARers and SMGers.

Well now, if your talking about 'skill' there's your problem as I'm getting a kind of CoD vibe here...

I'll say the shotgun as most in games are pump action so there is a fire rate issue as well as the obvious lack of hurting more than someones feelings at range so you need to have a bit more in the way of 'sneakiness'

Bolt-action sniper rifles in games with bullet drop. ARMA 2, Lee-Enfield - that says it all, really.
I would have to second that - any game with bullet drop and sniper rifles is a pain; S.T.A.L.K.E.R games are rather bad at doing that.
In Call of Pripyat, there is a mission where you have to kill two individuals in order to prevent their business transaction; note you have to kill BOTH of them else the mission is a failure, because the other escapes and will negotiate with someone else. One of the people MUST be a headshot kill else, he will survive, thanks to his monster armour, and escape unless you can hit him whilst he's running into the building; killing both of them in less than two seconds is hard because you have to calculate bullet drop into it aswell, albeit not that badly; its only like a 200 meter shot, but it still counts.
Hilariously enough, the easier solution is to launch and RPG at them, as the launcher has a x2.5 zoom and its an instakill on practically everything.

Bolt action rifles on games without the ability to quick-scope are also bad, especially when they cannot be steadied either; Killzone 1's sniper comes to mind, as it is about judging when to fire because the scope will line up, although that said, it is effectively a guaranteed instakill should you hit them. I'd also have to nominate the scoped weapons in Fallout New Vegas; even at higher levels, some of them still have enough drift to mess your shot and that's annoying when the Anti-Materiel Rifle's .50 calibre rounds cost at least 6 caps per round. Still, they are probably easier to use than this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lahti_L-39 - I suspect this is the largest weapon ever used as a sniper. Can you imagine using a 20mm Sniper rifle in Call of Duty or a Battlefield game?

The lack of really fast quickscope in Call of Duty Black Ops does make them rather harder to use, so all in all I would have to say sniper rifles. In practically every game, they are the hardest to use and usually need the most practice to perfect.

Edit: actually I can think of a few other monstrosities to master; rapid-fire SMGs in Call of Duty that also have bad recoil and big MGs with similar issues.

The single shot sniper rifle takes some skill i'd say, but the "special weps" are pretty hard too, but thoes are made for special situations.

But really CoD weps are not really difficult as the game mostly hands out free hits (yes, it does).

@OP: Especially the last option of the poll, and the fact that you mentioned a CoD:BO map gives of a CoD vibe, and really, CoD isn't that hard wep use wise.. Sorry to say but the title misses.. Which CoD weapon types takes the most skill would be more fitting...

Quake 3 Railgun. Fires kinda slowly, has no zoom, and to top it off when you shoot it it makes a loud noise and leaves a distinct trail that screams HERE I AM!

Getting a headshot is very satisfying though.

Sniper rifles. Specifically bolt action ones. Sniping requires precision aiming. In games like Halo you can almost pray and spray with a sniper rifle but it is only about 30% effective. Bolt action rifles mean you get one shot ever second and a half which means you need to be sure your first one hits or your target is gone.

Hmm...

Come to think of it, I miss the karate chop from goldeneye.

Since all your weapons there seem to be from CoD, I will say shotguns since they are rather underpowered.

It's all down to "pejoration", where euphemisms are abused by bullies to become general purpose insults.

The words "moron" "Idiot" "retarded" "special" all started off as official and proper terms in medical journals for people who have very low IQ but the public quickly picked up on these labels and started using them as insults, so much so that the euphemisms can no longer served their purpose.

Same happened with "noob". The word was slang/euphemism for "new player, very unfamiliar with the rules and effective strategy, they are NEW" but it was used so often instead as an insult against dominated players that somehow it became a general purpose insult.

Now Noob is used not to be demonstrative of anything but as pure slander. They feel humiliated by being killed, the only way they can get back is to imply they are a lowly novice.

I have see the term "noob friendly servers" still in use but I've never seen the term used against clearly novice players who get themselves killed through unfamiliarity and incompetence.

Bolt-Action anything. You need to displace yourself from the fight, and stay back, because you'll undoubtedly be lining up your shot for longer because of the extra lag between shots. Because you're putting more effort into aiming, you need to be very concious of what's going on,lest you get shot from the side. You also have to place the shot right, which aiming should provide. Finally, shoot n' scoot. Seriously. Bolt-Action weapons are preciseon weapons used by eliminators, not G.I's. Shoot to kill one high-priority target, then run off to a new location.

what, no bolt-action rifle option?
(I know there's a sniper rifle option, but I'm talking iron sights)

the KAR .98 was the most fun, and rewarding gun I ever played with in a FPS. Iron sights, if you weren't accurate you were stuck reloading while a moron ran out you with a thompson or PSSH spraying the room. If you used it well, well you could become unstoppable.

*tear* I miss CoD1/UO/2.

MP40 Dual Mags with Bouncing Betties, Double Tap and Steady Aim
Yes, because the cheapest combination in World At War takes way more skill than all the other guns combined. It's so hard to get even one kill with that weapon, much less hide in a church tower with bouncing betties behind you and a line of sight on pretty much anybody. [/sarcasm]
If you do happen to use this in that church tower, make sure you hip fire for maximum effectiveness and the best killcam ever. Otherwise, just hold down the trigger as soon as you spawn and try and look at people who get in your way.

Depends on situation and what you're going for. Speaking from a BFBC2 perspective, long range sniping is quite difficult (bullet drop/flight time), especially with a moving target.

Non-automatic shotguns are also a ***** because it's basically no room for failure, you either kill the opponent in one/two shots or you're dead before you can get a third one off. Granted it gives you the ability to one shot people at close ranges, but again, you miss once, you generally don't have time to take another shot before the opponent fills you full of holes.

I find other weapons easier, but they don't have the same edge as those two in their beneficial situations (especially if you get good with them).

Still, as far as kill satisfaction goes, nothing so far beats headshot-sniping a moving target at a long range, through two windows just as he turns a corner. Well except for sniping out a helichopter driver and watching the chopper go down of course, but that's a lot more luck/persistence based :p

Bolt Action Rifles are some of the best IF the map allows for it. One shot kills are some of the most satisfying in any game (*Boom* Headshot!). I would have to go with improvised weapons (xbow, throwing knife, etc...) because they are usually a sidearm weapon with shaky accuracy.
