Thief
But to be specific, Thief 3, I liked that you could go around the city unlike the last 2 where it just took you to the missions. Plus the last one felt like a horror game with all the zombies. Thief 3 also had 3 person style.

Having just finished a Metal Gear Solid marathon, I must say: damn, I love these games. Sure, Assassin's Creed was good, but hardly what I'd call a stealth game. Hitman and Thief were cool, but not really my thing and I tend to ignore Splinter Cell for no good reason.

Solid Snake it is.

Sly Cooper.

Who needs a cardboard box, when you can turn invisible at will and speed up time to make guards patrol faster? Well, in Sly 1 at least.

Thief all the way.
Hitman came REAL REAL close thou.

I don't think of AC as a stealth-series. More like a Platform-Hack n' Slash-adventure kind of a thing.

As much as I disagree with that statement, I won't start a flamewar, but I will correct one thing.

Thief: Dark Project had zombies too (even thou I hated them), Can't remember if Metal age had them thou. ^^

Metal Gear Solid, was my first real introduction to stealth gaming when I played the first one way back when.

Only MSG:1 and MSG:3 really had any decent Stealth Mechanics in them, and IMO MGS:3 was the best of the entire series.

Hitman. As that is the only series along with Assassins' Creed I have played.

Although the most intensive stealth moments for me have definitely happened in CS:S.
I miss the REAL stealth of Splinter Cell. Hated conviction to be honest before it took a man who is normally in the military and can't take many hits, and turned him into a civvy tank that gun runs.

Favourite must be thief though

By the way, I'm curious, where is your avatar from?

How is Assassin's Creed a Stealth game? The only stealth are parts are the forced "don't be seen by a guard or else" sections and they're all just awful, they're what ruined Brotherhood.

Definitely HitMan.

I love how I can make it look like an accident. I love how I can garrote the fucker. I love how I can go in guns-a-blazin'. I love how I can do an amalgamation of all those options.

I just wish more games would allow you that much freedom *shakes fist at Assassin's Creed*.

Free speech is fine with me!
The atmosphere was what made me say it felt like a horror game, with the sound and the moaning, scared me when I was on the second level of the first game.
and there was that level with the scary corridors and weird structure, to find that sword.

I definitely found Thief to be the best stealth series. If you're going to go back and try it out though, keep it's age in mind. It looks pretty dated these days, but I think it's stealth mechanics are still better than anything newer. I thought Thief 3 was the better of the series, but all of them were good.

I had the same thought, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion was more of a stealth game than Assassin's Creed TBH.
