I'd only eat it if it tasted alright. I'd never eat something I hated the taste of even for survival, like bananas... Or tomatoes. In the case of it being someone close, I'd still eat it (If it tasted alright). After all, it is just a corpse. It wouldn't make a difference.

A lot of people eat pork. Pigs have almost the same skin and meat as humans.

I would eat pork if I had to survive, and I would also eat human flesh as there is little difference.

Depends on just how dire the situation is. According to some quick research, given an adequate water supply the average human body can go about forty days without food, and if you are fatter then you can last longer. The confirmed records for this stretch as high as 70 days plus. I know it's not exactly in keeping with the nature of the question but I can't envisage a situation where if I knew rescue was on the way i would not be found within a month, or at worst two and a bit months.

The human body is capable of some truly remarkable things really. Someone of my weight could potentially last for a very long time without food, especially if the weight was primarily fat as opposed to muscle mass.

I'd try to preserve the body with sea salt so if things do get very desperate the meat would still be fresh but I'd be waiting for rescue til the last minute.

So, you and one other person you know but aren't particularly close to are trapped on a desert island. There is help coming, and you have a healthy supply of fresh water to drink. However, there is a lack of food. Your aquaintance throws in the towl first, as you are fatter. There is no more food left, and you will not make it unless you eat the body. What do you do?

Also, how would it affect your decision if the person in question was someone close?

I don't think I could, I would rather eat bugs, just find a good scorpion and munch, too squeamish to eat someone, I couldn't start hacking at the person's bones.

Logic Fail: If I have no choice doesn't that mean I have to do it (as in, dying is not an option). you mean its a choice between dying and eating your friend. Yeah I guess if i thought there was a good chance at rescue. Wouldn't just want to live alone on a desert island tho.

It's pretty well documented that when people are in desperate situations, they do tend to resort to cannibalism. The instinct to survive is strong.

I'm pretty bloody squeamish, but yes, I do believe that I would eat a corpse if it came down to survival, and there was absolutely no other means of sustenance.

As for the body part, I'd go for... probably an ass cheek. I know, weird, but at least you don't have to saw through bone.

sure why not. i think a better question would be in a survival situation are you willing to kill and eat someone? or do you have to wait for someone to die then eat them.

its not like the dead person is going to feel you eating them. its like 60-120kg of meat, you would have to be suicidal to pass on eating them. even just a piece like their thigh.

i think i wouldnt want to eat head, hand, feet cause they are all too humanish. but a piece of leg probably doesnt look any different from a chunk of pig.

You're missing the poll and you have already stated in the topic "no choice". Why ask us if we do not have a choice? If we do have a choice, I would have to say no, I will not resort to cannibalism and instead try to find food on or around the island. Even though you have stated it is deserted, it is still an island and therefore you can still try to catch fish.

If the other person I am with is skinnier than me, then I don't think I would have much to worry about because I am not fat, can run fast, and likely take him out. No I will not eat him, yes I will defend myself if he attacks me.

Lastly, if there is help coming, I would assume it wouldn't take them a month to get to me, so I'll be fine in case I wasn't able to get food. I've gone 7 days without any food so it's not like its impossible even if it took them a week to rescue me.
