There's nothing wrong with porn...unless it's replacing having a real sex life.
Personally I think most porn spends way too much camera time on the dude's face & penis. I get more turned on by watching web videos of chicks making out. There's no room for other guys in my sexual fantasies.

Not conclusive by any stretch of the imagination, but still interesting. Maybe if perverts can "get their fill" using internet videos, then they don't feel the need to go outside and prey on real women?

As a woman, I approve of pretty much anything (within reason) that lessens the chance of me getting attacked!
Wait. Are you saying anyone who watches porn is a pervert?
No, I'm saying anyone who rapes women is a pervert!

To be viewed for enjoyment purposes only its fine. But it is in NO way a realistic portrayal of sex, plus on a whole gender stereotyping viewpoint it is VERY flawed.

Yeah, a man can't fix the plumbing that fast.

I watch it for the plot.
You know I have a bigger problem with the pizza delivery guy. Seriously, what the fuck happened to the pizza? Who orders a pizza and doesn't eat it. If they want to screw the delivery boy, go ahead, but don't waste that perfectly good pizza!

I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with porn, the idea is fine. I mean, not good either. It's neutral.

However, in reality it tends to be kinda shitty.

Porn is a good thing and it has a very good benefit.
Imagine if you will a hopeless, socially retarded dip wad (Like my self) who really wants to see some boobies right the fuck now (Like my self)
With out Porn I'd be forced to either peer longingly into my hot neighbor's (Of which I have none) bathroom window. Find some girl, convince her I'm not hopeless, socially retarded, and a dip wad and then ask her to show me her boobs. or option C just kidnap some poor thing off the street and strip her down. Now those are all terrible options and most sensible people will pick the second one, but all that leads to is a life of disappointment and frustration and eventually option C.
With glorious porn all I have to do is go to google and type in "boobs" and bada bing bada boom I'm satisfied.

I believe that Porn has a place. It is good for you in moderation and it is one of the only industries in America seeing growth still (pardon the pun). I have recently started to explore different stuff to see what tickles my fancy more or less.

I don't watch it, but the pornographic industry is very important, according to something I read on cracked (I know, I know).

In the days when VHS tapes were like £100, the only people willing to shell out for them were though who wanted privacy, and eventually economy of scale brought the price down. Same thing may have happened with DVDs.

Same idea with online shopping, the porno industry were the ones who took the risk on developing that technology and its security since privacy is important to their customers, as well as the technology behind video streaming.

Seeing as how I use porn for money and good times on deviantART. I'd say its lookin' pretty good. Hooray for humanities baser instincts.

Considering most of my porn is drawn or self-shot, I don't need to worry about stupid things like the fact that produced porn is incredibly unrealistic. Even better, I don't get any false ideas about sex by watching that junk, and have a healthy realistic sex life as well.

Amateur porn is the best kind, for sure.

I don't know if it's beneficial, though it could be argued that it prevents sexual violence. (Maybe?) since it can be simulated legally and such. (That's totally made up, though I'd imagine it would. Not that I'm qualified to make a statement like that. :p )

I do think it's rather funny that prostitution is illegal unless you film it, then it's perfectly legal porn.
Do you mean that watching child pornography might prevent someone from going out and raping a child? I don't know if that would work, but it's an interesting idea.
It doesn't work. At least, not in the most eggregious cases. When police track down a predatory, murderous pedophile, their homes are usually littered with enough pornographic material to drown a buffalo.

"If you want to stop people from becoming like me, don't burn Catcher in the Rye, burn Hustler"
-Ted Bundy
That could be in part because CP is already illegal, so a guy breaking the law by downloading that only has a tiny step further in terms of punishment to actually molest a kid. If CP wasn't illegal to view, there is a case to be made that potential criminals would stop at that level, as sick as that level may be. As it is now, if a messed up guy gets 10 years for CP but 15 years for sexually molesting a kid, the bar to entry is pretty low, as fucked up as it sounds.

A change in the law could, in practice, see results similar to Japan, which saw a reduction in forcible rape after essentially encouraging the spread of rape-based hentai.

This would require testing that also weeds out cultural elements. Something that works in Japan might have an opposite effect here in the states, after all.

For the people who apparently are addicted to sex and don't get it through being married on a consistent basis.. It's an obsession and it's a sickness in that obsession as an obsession isn't healthy in any regard.

In any case, porn is an insult to the people in it, the people it portrays, how it portrays them, the stereotypes it creates, and the content itself. It's a waste of money.. and it's the most torrented thing on the internet..

Sigh.

---

I've maintained myself by not becoming obsessed over it or interested in it, and I don't really care about it either.

You mean I have been doing it wrong the whole time?

Not in the case of child pornography, because in the case of pedophiles, you don't want to encourages their sexual thoughts, you want to suppress them altogether or change them to acceptable fantasies.
They said (and still do) the same about homosexuality.
"You must fantasize abut women" - they said - "It will be fun!"
"It's the only way you can cure... teh gay."
*dum-dum-duuuum*

This coming from someone who advocates death penalty for kidnap/rape/murder (pick two or three, in any order) of children, and chemical castration in cases of non-consensual pedophilia.

No matter how awful it might be, I can't stop thinking about the connections with homosexuality. We used to think it was wrong and evil, and we killed and castrated people because of it. I admit that even my "perfect world" sentences are not the best options, and I kind of hate myself for thinking about that.

Truth be told, I'd rather end someone's life than program a human mind to fit my personal beliefs and morals.

I'll end by making a reference to eXistenZ: if a virtual world is so realistic, would it even create an urge in the real life?

I play a game with porn, how many minutes it takes for them to forget the story line and start boning
This is the weirdest thing I've ever bonded with somebody over.

I do the same thing.

The best part is...

I guess I'll say "after" when I find myself trying to remember what the plot was supposed to be. Happen to notice a police uniform in the corner of the screen and just nod.

Oh...right...

Porn can certainly be negative, especially if you find yourself in the dark corners of the internet. It reminds me of that movie Coyote Ugly.

You go into the film "Drunk" and afterwords you are like...my god...I'm the filthiest creature in the world...
I remember the intro to one I saw had a guy saying to a European chick, 'welcome to America!'

He was wearing a Canada shirt.

http://evebitfirst.wordpress.com/2011/05/18/a-man-is-a-rape-supporter-if

According to the woman who posted the above blog, you're a "rape supporter" if you watch porn that:

  • Depicts women
Sexually objectifies lesbians or lesbian behaviour
Depicts "sexual acts are depicted as a struggle for power or domination, regardless of whether women are present."

That's not even close to a comprehensive list of the things that make someone a "rape supporter", but it does make for some damn funny reading, since her list is so broad and inclusive that almost every man over the age of 18 alive today qualifies. It also states that asking if porn is an acceptable artistic medium makes you a "rape supporter".

Also, if that wordpress blog happens to rustle your jimmmies, feel free to check out this response:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geQyrBGS_60&feature=bf_prev&list=PLAB34B72BF0CFDB77

I'll flat-out admit that I watch porn, and that I enjoy watching it, if I don't have a more pressing, intimate encounter to engage in.

Your poll choices are kind of confusing =/
I enjoy porn but don't wither and die when without, is that an acceptable answer?
