It's the weakest part of the Orange Box, without a doubt. But it's still a pretty entertaining game, if only for the atmosphere and to hear Glados' silly quips.
And Mike Patton did vocals for the aggressive GlaDos module = WIN!

It's a really entertaining puzzle game. The dialogue is fun to listen to, the levels vary in difficulty, and I don't think I've met a single person who didn't like it at all. I won't say it's worth buying for more than thirty dollars (it's short), but it's worth buying. Especially in the orange box set, since you get other stuff you might play

True, but that doesn't mean the game is not overrated.

The only thing I dont like is that the animations of your character feel underdone. When you go through portals in a way that you can see yourself, it doesn't look good. Still, the feel of the game is great and figuring out a puzzle that's been holding you off is the second most satisfying feeling in the world. Forum rules don't allow me to get into detail on what the first is, but it's a great game. You can feel a bit boxed in by the whole thing, but that's the point. It makes the end that much more amazing.

Here's a HUGE warning: STAY AWAY FROM WALKTHROUGH HELP!!!!!!
If you get told how to solve the puzzles, there's nothing left for you to do yourself and it's not fun, it's work.

To all of you Portal nay-sayers out there I have this to say: CHEAT! I beat the game and after losing the fun part of the game, decided to look up cheats to spice up the video game fun! Spoiler to all BUT! If you go to options, keyboard, and enable the enabling the console by pressing `, you can open the Cheats menu...If you input the correct command you get new stuff to make puzzles easier; Like a what-if? "What if I could get through that puzzle without having to go through all that nonsense?" And cheat spoiler: typing in Impulse 101 gets you the original (I think) weapons from HL 1-2, but also the full portal gun if you haven't gotten that far...you can also spawn HL-2 zombies, civilians, hell even combine soldiers! my point is, the game doesn't have to lose it's tastelessness if you give cheating (AFTER BEATING IT SO YOU DON'T NERD RAGE ME!)a try...The Cake is not a lie.

I liked it. It's tough, and pretty frustrating at some points, but it's well worth it.
Plus I only paid like $5 for it brand new at the local game store.
Trade-ins! WOOOO!!!

Remember that the Orange box is not a new game so it will be quite cheap now. Knowing that I bought it for nearly £10 makes it well worth the money. Not to mention the other great games that are also in the Orange Box. That gives it strong reasons to buy it.

Portal itself is very good and will keep you entertained for a few hours and the harder puzzles may take you a long time to complete.

HL2 is a game good for you if you like a very good story with suspence and action.

And TF2 is the most crazy fun filled games which I still play. It will keep you busy for hours on end.

If you buy Portal itself it may seem a bit short but definately go buy the Orange Box.

Infact i just finished playing it last night for the second time, and i am going ot play it again tonight... as short as it is, it is really well done and you actually have to stop and think about things, not just run in and try your best

Buy The Orange Box, but not for Portal. The Half Life games and Team Fortress 2 are far better than Portal. But give Portal a try, it's fun enough I guess. (Half Life proves to be so much better.)

Portal just isn't worth the money. It's probably one of the best games all time.

I liked it a lot, for sure, creative, funny and unique but I won't hold it up as a godly accention from the heavens either. I liked Portal a lot, like it's my number five game but it's not perfect. I say it's worth the money though because it is still something special.

I mostly liked the humour, but the puzzling was also great, therefore I'd say it is worth it even outside the orange box, but if you don't already have most of the other components of said box, get that instead.
