If the game doesn't have any replay value, then I generally hate it anyways.
However, a lot of JRPG's that I play have the whole "New Game +" idea, where you get some sort of benefit for starting the whole game over again. The best example of this is Tales of Symphonia. God, I loved that game.

Mass Effect 1. First time I played it through I didn't realise that after Ilos you couldn't go back and do sidequests. I felt..guilty strangely enough, thinking I'd left so much unfinished. Particularly about Garrus and Wrex's quests. Although, having M4 PartII playing through the credits kinda cheered me up a little, it was a damn good song.

God knows how I'll react when the trilogy ends. I'm actually dreading the announcement of the third game.

Edit: Yup. Fears confirmed, it's the beginning of the end!

The World Ends With You was the only game I recall feeling depressed that it was over, even though I enjoy the Mass Effect series more, I didn't feel depressed when I finished them.

The first time I ended Chrono Trigger. I was happy when my sister explained that there is still a lot of stuff to do after killing lavos.

But I can relate. Depends on the writing in the game though.

...how long was that...

3 minutes? That is painful!
I really don't want to finish Chrono Trigger, I'm at the point where I have the epoch and can do sidequests before finishing the game, but I don't want to finish!

Most of the time (especially when playing JRPG's) im happy the games over. Doesn't bother me often other than when playing Fallout New Vegas, I was bummed when that game ended I tell you cause that game was a blast!

Why? Having too much fun or do you just feel like your done with the game?

Knowing that I'm coming up on the end of a game I was REALLY enjoying tends to be a poignant experience. I've felt this the most with Portal, Resident Evil 4, Silent Hill 2, Bioshock, and Final Fantasy VII.

Conversely, I get annoyed when a game's ending doesn't thrill me like I feel it should. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, I'm looking at you.

Definitely. I always get excited, but also sad, when a really good game is winding down for the ending. Same with a good movie, or a good book, or a good television show. You never want it to end. But the other thing is that usually things are better if they end when the story does. Leave it at that, consider it done, and have a fantastic, full work to fondly remember. I would not have rather Avatar: The Last Airbender went on, because it ended just as it should have. I was happy with Final Fantasy X, because it ended with emotion and finality; X-2 was completely unnecessary. A good experience makes me sad to end it, but makes my memories that much better.

When i had finished the main quest in oblivion i felt lonely because all the characters i knew had died.

damn this sound really pathetic but yes i can totally relate.
Yeah, I get this with any game (or book or movie for that matter) I get really attached to, not just RPGs.

I was sad when I completed Ratchet & Clank, I finished that when I was like 10 or something, so I sucked at games or hand-eye coordination in general, meaning that it took me months and I really warmed up to the characters in that time.
And then it was over. LUCKILY Ratchet & Clank 2 was made.

I get this with games in general. I think it's because you put the hours in and have fun, and then when it's over you're just like...oh...what do I do now...?

I got this quite bad with Kingdom Hearts 2, and when I first completed FFIX.

The last truly great JRPG experience I had was Chrono Trigger... and I still go back to it now and again, so no... can't relate.

(This may apply more to JRPGs since I've found that WRPGs especially on PC can be modded and have their lifetime extended after you beat it.)

Am I the only one who feels slightly depressed after finishing a really good JRPG? Its gotten to the point where I stretch out the last parts of the game because I don't want to finish it, and say goodbye to my characters.

I've been putting off finishing Megaman Legends 2 for weeks now because after I beat it I'll have no more Legends to experience. I'm going to play Tales of Vesperia and hope that I somehow get over this PRD syndrome.

So does this happen to you and what games specifically?
MM Legends 3 is going to be on 3DS.

OT: I felt this way after finishing TWEWY.

Usually the other way around for me, unless the game itself was depressing... or bad. I get a high from finally triumphing, all the failed missions, the brutal set-piece battles, the stupid mistake deaths, to have the sweet vindication of finally triumphing everything the game can throw at me.

However, I'm also that annoying guy who always complains about having to unlock a manly difficulty setting.
