Recently i walked into EB Games wanting to buy either fallout 3 or assassins creed 2. Whilst weighing the pros and cons I spied the sign to pre-order Mass Effect 2. As soon as i saw Mass Effect my mind was over ridden and i spent my money on the pre-order. When i left the store i stopped and realized i wouldnt have anything to play for a month which is why i went into the store in the first place. So initially i regretted it, but when i got home i reminded myself of why its worth waiting.
Then i played Shadow of the Colossus for the hyper bazillionith time.

So vote and feel free to share your stories.

I guess, theoretically, if you had no willpower at all and knew you wanted a game, and had the money for it, but by the time it was released you would have spent it all on Dr. Pepper and cake mix and were out of luck, its a great idea.

I dont, because I never find out about games until a year after release, anyway.

Why wouldn't it be worth it? I get discounts, and I get bonus items for doing it. If Although you should always have some backup games.

I only pre-order the most special games, the ones I'm willing to also get special editions of. Halo 2 is the only one ever. Mass Effect 2 will be my second.

I never pre-order a game unless I'm sure ill enjoy it, like Mass Effect 2. But you have to be careful, i did the same thing with Mirror's Edge and while it was alright i felt i paid to much for this game because of its length.

I have done it in the past. These days however, I have no fear that I will go to the game store and my hoped for game will not be in stock. I very rarely buy games on release day.

In the UK you don't pay for a pre-order, you're just reserving a copy. So it's always worth it because if you change your mind you can simply cancel it without losing any money.

There should be an option for buying online, I pre-order most games online, so they simply turn up with the morning post on release day.

I have pre-ordered many games and have always been happy by the results. I consider midnight releases to be something like social gatherings and, if there is no midnight release, I am that guy. You know: One of those guys who wait for the game store to open on the day of a big release? Well ... if I had pre-ordered something anyway

If it's a game I'm really looking forward to then I will. I like to get the payment out of the way so I don't have to worry about scrounging the money together the day it comes out. It's also a good idea if the store has a pre-order incentive like GamesStop usually does with big titles.

I definitely do it if there is going to be a midnight release 'cuse I can usually leave my house at 11:30 PM and be home playing the game by 12:10.

I never pre order since I'm in college and my finances are a rather slippery thing to keep track of. What I want now I may not have money for in a month, so why potentially waste money preordering it?

I've never really felt the need too.
It's not like copies go flying out of the stores quickly anymore, and if they're intending too usually they have a midgnight opening.

So pre-order isn't a massive deal.

I dont live in a giant town. That being said, one day I went to buy Fable 2 on what happend to be release day, and it had to be in the morning when the local game store opened, because I was leaving on vacation and wanted something to putter around with. It was interesting to be outside of the locked store at 8 in the morning with the one hardcore Fable 2 fan in my town, i would have been nervous if I hadnt assumed he had more of a desire to kill skeletons and hobbes than me. (Do all hardcore Fable 2 fans have tattoos on they're faces?)

Boo pre-ordering.

I highly recommend pre-ordering.
I means I don't need to leave home to get my gaming fix.

Also, Pre-ordering a console means I don't need to stand out in the winter weather (no console is ever released in good weather) only to find out that there aren't any left when I get to the store.

Only when I'm really looking forward to the game. Mass Effect 2, Bioshock 2, and Final Fantasy XIII are on pre-order. I pre-ordered Mirror's Edge, Halo Wars, Halo 3: ODST, Gears of War 2, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, as well as the Wii and Twilight Princess.

Worth it, as long as you only do it for the games that are really worth it.

Pre-ordering is good. I don't have to rush to the game store to get new releases and they give me bonuses and discounts, so why wouldn't you.
