Poll: Preordering dissapointment

I've noticed more and more "free DLC with preorders" coming out lately and you know what, it doesn't make me want to buy those games any more, for a couple of reasons. these are all my opinion and if you feel differently, I'd love to hear it, anyway,

1) it's a total rip off buying it the day it comes out or preordering. Usually $110 AUD for a brand new game. Wait a week and it's $98 or $88 (Go JB HI-FI, I love you guys) wait even longer and it's cheaper still, or get it second hand or on e-bay for those who ain't made of money.

2) Half the time the game turns out to be a steamy pile of crap anyway.

Which comes to my Poll: Have you pre-ordered dissapointment lately or what was the last preordered dissapointment you paid for?

I haven't because I learnt my lesson.

To illustrate my point further, Dead Space 2 (at my local store) had a preorder only collectors edition with a plasma cutter replica. I was really exicted and almost bought it. I later found out it was a teeny tiny model (NOT replica because replica would mean 1:1 scale) and I'm glad I didn't preorder that...

I almost never preorder. Usually some token DLC just won't cut it for me to be worth paying out the nose when I can wait a while and get it for much cheaper. And I've often seen the "preorder only" versions for sale on the actual shelves on the release day too.

It's also a huge help to download demos of games first, if they're available.

The last time I pre-ordered a game I did not end up liking was Mercenaries 2: World In Flames. Every other game I have pre-ordered since then I have enjoyed.

I've only pre-ordered one game, and that was Atelier Iris (Azuer Azoth..I think it's the 3rd one). I loved it.
The only goody it came with was the OST, but damn, I adored all the songs in that game. In fact, that was the whole reason I pre-ordered anyway.

I was going to pre-order Etrian Odyssey, but I left the US before that. And it's silly to try to pre-order once you're in Thailand or Australia, considering that..you can't.

Ive never had a problem with walking in on day one, even for HUGE games. So I dont bother. As for the incentives, they usually are bad, or unfair, which annoys me. They should be stuff thats interesting, but worthwhile, and if its in game content, not something that makes it unfair for people who did not get it. I might actually pre-order the new MK though, cause its a bunch of cool stuff that is not unfair. A cool book stand, some interesting extras, and DLC codes for alternate costumes (based on their origional ones) Its something cool, but doesnt affect actual gameplay.

I've preordered several games and it's hit and miss sometimes. I can be completely sure of some games and others I just know I'm going to spend some time on and take it back. I got MoH on opening day ... peer pressure man ... that game's multiplayer gave me no motivation to play it (I won't go into the sloppy mess of the single player). Most other games I preorder are absolutely something I know I'll like, even if I have to brush off the poo issuing from it.

Interesting. I totally forgot about the fact that most AAA pre-order actually costs you MORE!
Atlus games cost the same when preordered, so meh.

The first Assassin's Creed. I was so psyched for it, and it was such a huge disappointment. I hear that the other Assassin's Creed games are better, but I just can't get past the tremendous let down of the first to psyche myself up enough to try one of them.

But it's okay, because while it took a little while, Batman Arkham Asylum (which I also pre-ordered) came out, and gave me the stealth experience I wanted, only better, because it had Batman in it. Though I do wish I hadn't gone with the limited edition (I guess this is where the flaw of pre-ordering comes on). I probably should have known that the Batarang that came with it would be a shitty plastic thing (don't get me wrong, I didn't expect a functioning Batarang, just a actually decent replica, made of metal). Oh well, I try to be more critical of any swag I hear about coming with a game anymore, so if nothing else I guess I learned a lesson.

I'll be preordering Mass Effect 3. That's about it for preorders for me this year. I was going to preorder Dragon Age 2 but decided to buy a bass guitar instead of that game.

that's funny, I LOVED Assassin's Creed, I thought it would have made a terrific batman game. Then AA came out, and actually, I found it remarkably similar to AC, except instead of climbing buildings you just zipped up batman style.

the only games I've pre-ordered were pokemon games, starting with platinum, which had a pre-order bonus of a crappy pokemon wallet, which is somewhere within my cupboard, collecting dust.

Generally, I don't mind pre-ordering the pokemon games becausew I know I like them and want to get them as soon as possible.

I pre-ordered Brutal Legend, expecting a solid, funny free-roaming adventure game.
Fortunately, I realized how off the mark I was before the trade in price dropped much.

My only other pre-orders have been Bioshock 2 and Mass Effect 2, both of which I was pretty happy with. I don't do pre-orders for any perks, since none of my three have had any worth mentioning. I do it so I can pay in installments. I can rarely afford to drop $60 on a video game, but spreading it out with $20 here, $10 there over a few months is much more affordable.

Its odd, all the games I pre-ordered with the only info I have on them is a trailer or two have turned out being really good. The games I have researched an bought after the release date have turned out to be $500 worth of games I want to burn.

EDIT: WAIT WAIT WAIT! Black Ops. I pre-ordered that. Went to the midnight launch even. Didn't play it for a week. I'm not inviting flamers but in all honesty it wasn't the greatest game...And I also bought it on PS3 (I was sick of dealing with Steam). Maybe its just that I have it on PS3 (and I am sorry, but they don't come anywhere near PC players).

ive never preordered a game, they (my local game shop) always has enough copies of the newly released game. JB HIFI are heroes when it comes to new releases, i did ebgames out of about $500 dollars of sales when blacks ops came out. eb games had it for 120 and jb had it for approx 80 dollars. There was a line of about 10-15 people behind me who then got BO at the cheaper price, the clerk looked very sad.

The only games I've pre-ordered: Civilization V, and Fallout: New Vegas. Both predictably amazing. Oh, and Dragon Age 2, which isn't disappointing at all. Having good fun with it.

I've also pre-ordered Portal 2, which can't disappoint. I hadn't Portal before either, so getting it with the same price was awesome.

Oh, and replica really is either an exact, or a smaller scale, copy of the original. As has been pointed out.

I've only pre-ordered twice (at normal cost I must add).

Once was MW2 which I was really pleased with and the other was FFXIII which I played and dropped 105 hours on, but I feel cheated about (the time, not so much the money).

Hence I voted no comment, because none of the options really summed up my hit and miss experience of pre-ordering.
