I don't make a lot of preorders but most of the time I make a preorder I know exactly what to expect... Even MoH I knew it would be good(ish) but not great! My current pre-orders are GoW3, LA Noire, Portal 2 and I'm considering Forza4. Those are safe bets... Most of the other games I buy I just wait for the prices to drop. Pre-orders are for collectors editions of games that you REEEEEEEEALLLLY love 'cause otherwise there aren't a lot of reasons to pay full price for a game.

I never pre-order. Don't have that much faith in game developers and prefer to investigate my games first. Plus, they're usually released cheaper and with more patches later in the year.

Only ever pre-ordered two games, Banjo Kazoo Nuts and Bolts, as I was going to get the game anyway and the pre-order came with Banjo Kazooie for XBLA for free, and DoW 2 Retribution as I was going to get it anyway, was bored and wanted to pre-load and the free items were a nice bonus. Most of the time, I prefer second hand though.

I have never been disappointed by a game that I have pre-order, but that is mainly because the first game that I have ever pre-order first arrives next May. Normally I don't trust developers to make a good game and almost no games are worth the start price.

One of the bonuses of living in the UK is you can see the reviews the Yanks give games on the tuesday and still pre-order (with bonuses). I rarely pre-order games and when I do its normally a game I was going to buy anyway and its got a pre-order deal on it (normally reduced cost). On the other hand, I regularly pre-order DVDs I'm interested in, but thats less of a risk as I only pre-order a film I've already seen at the cinema.

The closest I've ever been to "Disappointed" was Alpha Protocol. I pre-ordered it on the name of the developer alone (Obsideon fanboy ;) ) and when I got it, I put it on the pile of things to play and haven't touched it since.

(NOT replica because replica would mean 1:1 scale)
It is still a replica its a scaled replica, but still a replica, I've got a collection of nicky hayden replica moto gp bikes, but they dam sure ain't taking up any garage space. I'm sure if you had read carefully it would have said somewhere ....
Yeah, I suppose but I did look at the advertisement and they made no mention that it would be a reduced size replica or anything. I assumed it would be 1:1 scale due to lack of information. I mean, the replica being 1:3 scale is probabily something important to put on the ad, don't you think?

I have only preordered 1 game before and that was pokemon Platinum Wich was quite fun. Honestly I don't ever buy New games unless it is a game that I either have been looking forward to (Portal 2, Bioshock Infinite, and Alice Returns to madness) or if One of my closest freinds highly recommends it (too worlds 2). Now the free pre-order DLC is quite a bad way to entice people to buy your game new when in few months the game will have gone down in price and it would cost less to buy it and then buy the DLC.

i usually only preorder a game if it's something I've been waiting for or something I know I'll like.

I hardly ever pre-order, but was disappointed with Bioshock 2 and the first Assassins Creed. Generally, though, I only pre-order games I know enough about to know they'll be awesome. Or the ones I really want to be good. Come on, Deus Ex: Human Revolution Augmented Edition, don't screw me...

Personally I tend to pre-order happiness. Pre-ordering disappointment never really works out...

Actually the only bad pre-order experience I've had is with the new AvP game (for being utterly abysmal). Other than that all my pre-orders have worked out just fine.

I've never been dissapointed with a pre-order because I only pre-order stuff that I know is going to be awesome. Like Portal 2.

I've noticed more and more "free DLC with preorders" coming out lately and you know what, it doesn't make me want to buy those games any more, for a couple of reasons. these are all my opinion and if you feel differently, I'd love to hear it, anyway,

1) it's a total rip off buying it the day it comes out or preordering. Usually $110 AUD for a brand new game. Wait a week and it's $98 or $88 (Go JB HI-FI, I love you guys) wait even longer and it's cheaper still, or get it second hand or on e-bay for those who ain't made of money.

2) Half the time the game turns out to be a steamy pile of crap anyway.

Which comes to my Poll: Have you pre-ordered dissapointment lately or what was the last preordered dissapointment you paid for?

I haven't because I learnt my lesson.

To illustrate my point further, Dead Space 2 (at my local store) had a preorder only collectors edition with a plasma cutter replica. I was really exicted and almost bought it. I later found out it was a teeny tiny model (NOT replica because replica would mean 1:1 scale) and I'm glad I didn't preorder that...
OP is referring to that one company who's name rhymes with "Shmame Shmop," yes?

My own vitriol for this shit company aside, I've noticed 2 things regarding their pre-orders:

1. They often offer total crap for in-game content as incentive for pre-ordering: an extra gun, all content unlocked from the beginning, or some other garbage that makes the game too easy, robs us of replayability, or otherwise adds NOTHING to the overall experience.

2. Gamestop has a history of losing reserved games. This is partly due to their hoarding software for their friends and partly due to an overall lack of competence. Walk into 5 random gamestops and ask when Mario is coming out and at least 3 employees will tell you that it's due out next month.

I remember when pre-order bonuses weren't just a single suit of in-game armor or a retarded looking gold-plated gun to show off to your friends in online modes, but were actual physical objects. That were free. They were still ultimately just as useless (when the fuck am I ever gonna need a thermos with the Resident Evil Outbreak logo on it?), but at least they could look neat on a shelf in a game room.

Incidentally, Resident Evil Outbreak on the PS2 is the last game I ever pre-ordered. Man, did that game blow.

I only pre-order games when I know they won't disappoint me.
I pre ordered Pokémon Black and I'll pre order Skyrim, but probably nothing in between.
