I never played the trilogy but I have since got my hands on the PC version of the 2008 Prince of Persia and I must say I'm impressed (I'm still playing it now - not finished it). I like the platforming and different powers you can use in the game. I like the companion and the banter between the two, it gives the game a nice pace between platforming, fighting and humor. I like the main characters and I would totally buy another Prince of Persia set along the same route as this one.

I actually enjoyed PoP2008 quite a bit when I played through. Sure, combat was a series of really annoying quick time events, and at the end it was essentially 'push button, win game', but it was gorgeous, and the soundtrack was excellent. I actually had no problem with the voice acting.

Things I didn't like about it were:
1.) There was no prince. Literally. There was a princess, but unless she was sporting some extra equipment that we weren't informed of, she doesn't quite fill this requirement.
2.) There was no Persia.
3.) Combat.
4.) The epilogue. The DLC had me raging out like you wouldn't believe. The main enemy kept switching between the Hunter and the Warrior, and only those two. Ever. You have to fight this bastard like, what, 6 times? I was so sick of his face. I beat it, just to have the ending, but CHRIST. Come on!

I still don't get the hate really. I mean, I loved the hell out of Sands of Time (Warrior Within was crap, I don't care what anyone else says. They killed the series for me with that emo trash.) but I could accept that Ubisoft wanted to do something new. Mind you, I don't really consider PoP08 a Prince of Persia game. It's just a Middle Eastern themed fantasy platformer that rips it's mythology from Zoroastrianism that they tack the title 'Prince of Persia' on to sell it. I still liked it. I honestly hope they don't completely drop the storyline. Cliff hanger endings that drop off into nothing suck.

I liked it, but to me the platforming felt very much like levels in a videogame rather than a world being my playground. The combat was kind of cool but you couldn't jump over enemies etc. Having replayed SOT a third time I've really come to respect and enjoy its fighting system. I liked that you could finish off an enemy with a satisfying dagger vacuum.

I also liked TTT and WW but those freakin S+M ninjas in WW were just FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF! Also Yuri Lowenthal will always be the prince for me. ALWAYS.

I loved it personally. It was nice departure from other games due to the gorgeous art style, the platforming, and the characters. Sure the combat wasn't the best it could be and the story was lacking, but those were trivial when it came to the overall experience. I loved it as much as the trilogy.

I love this game.

I haven't played the trilogy; I have SEEN SoT played all the way through, and tried my hand at playing the first one for about five minutes, but it wasn't my game and I gave it back as soon as my friend came back from whatever she was doing.

I do plan to play all three of the old ones at some point, but having seen SoT all the way through and POP 2008 all the way through, I have to say that I like new Prince considerably better. I'm also fond of Elika, and though she is mind-blowingly stupid when it comes to certain decision making processes, it doesn't make her motivation any less interesting.

That being said, I don't hate the origiPrince and Farah - in fact, they were quite amusing and I did like them both as characters. I just liked newPrince and Elika more.

It pissed me off so much.

I loved the SOT trilogy, 3 of my favorite games, I even loved Warrior Within. The combat was up there with God of War.

But this didn't even deserve the POP name.

Who the hell thought that having to repeat the same agonizingly boring QTE hell boss fights 5 fucking times each would be a good idea???

Fuck you, Ubisoft.

To be honest, I never even played it. I loved the original prince and all the old cast of characters, and I decided from the trailers and game play I saw that it wasnt for me.

Shit, that game is FOUR YEARS OLD ALREADY?! I dont like how fast that four years went. If you'd asked me, I would have said it was about 2 years old at the most :|

Liked it more than the trilogy. I don't know why, but I could never get into the trilogy, but I hopped joyfully into PoP2008.

They took nothing of what they learned from the Sands Trilogy, overall the game was very poor for what was expected of such a franchise and games that came before it.

It was a decent game. The thing that gets the game it's ire its it's ending. That was the worst ending to a game in a long time, and the epilogue DLC didn't make anything better.
