So I'm talking about online multiplayer games where you're playing as teams and you get the choice to kick someone out of the session/group if the majority agrees.

In games like CoD, it would be a good feature to have against campers or people who are just not playing as a team member; people who are in just for the kills even if the goal is not to collect the most kills. You know what I'm talking about.
On the other hand, games like L4D2, people are a little too overzealous of that feature. team members kick each other with the slightest provocation (Or no significant provocation at all). You ran ahead? Banhammer. You stayed behind? Banhammer. You didn't do that thing I was thinking you should do? Banhammer. You were overwhelmed for reasons beyond your powers? Bahnammer. You abandoned someone? Banhammer. You rescued someone? Banhammer! You get the idea.

So which do you think is a better idea, to have the ability to kick someone or learn to deal with them?

Likely the wrong place to ask but why the hell are campers so terrible in CoD? Don't you have smoke/nades/flashbangs and various weak walls to shoot them through? How is staying in one spot so everyone knows where you are or going to be beneficial?

Unless it's their own team complaining that they're not doing any objectives in which case carry on I completely understand.

As for your question, completely, 100% for it. I don't want to rely on either the game or whatever anti cheat system is in place to work, if that means it's abused by some admins then fuck it I'll just find somewhere else to play.

I'm in favour. Sure I daresay it gets misused a lot, especially in more competitive games, but I've kicked people from teams in the likes of City of Heroes and I'm glad I had the option to. One argumentative moron call ruin the experience for the entire team - most of whom want to skip the drama and just play the game, so if my initial attempts to cool them off don't work I'll kick. Let them form their own damn group if they don't like mine.

I've been in a few situations where I was wishing we had something of the sort:

For example, I was with a pair of friends in Halo 4 and we were doing Spartan Ops Matchmaking because we wanted to get some challenges done(not to mention it's got a great XP payout). So anyway we go onto the mission Spartan Thorne, which is fairly vehicle-centric. We got paired with a random that I shit you not, destroyed EVERY vehicle on the field, actively seeking us out to destroy OUR vehicles. Got a Ghost? He shoots a rocket at you and murders your ass. Tank? Spams grenades like it's going outta style. Hell, I was providing cover fire via a turret for my friend who was duking it out with a Hunter and you know what this asshole does? He blows my turret up. It was even worse when he acquired a vehicle: he'd actively try and run us over, which despite there being no friendly fire, instantly kills teammates. The boot feature is generally designed to prevent stories like that: and trust me, we were wishing we had that feature right about then. I'm aware that it may be misused, but the fault lies with the user misusing the feature, not the feature itself.

Consider me in the Pro camp.

That.
Yeah, snipers I don't mind. I mean, camping is kind of their job. But..yeah, you pretty much nailed it.

oh yeah, definitely love that function, especially when the douchebag is on your team and is doing everything imperatively to be an ass and make sure no one on your team is having fun (blocking shots, shooting gun like crazy to let enemy know where you are,etc...)

it's always a nuisance to call out a douchebag for his cheese strategies and not be able to do anything about it, the boot is always a nice option to get people to fuck off.

I don't play stuff like COD or any other FPS multiplayer, but I have seen the option to kick someone out in the multiplayer games I have played. I've played red dead redemption, where you start off in a free roam session where you can form a posse, and you can vote to kick people out while in the free roam session or in the lobby of an actual game mode. In a game like this, from what I've seen, its good to be able to kick people out.

In uncharted 3, they have a weird system. I haven't played the multiplayer in a while and I think this got patched...but I remember that you would have people getting killed accidentally (mostly) by their team mates grenades, and this happened a lot. If you get killed by the same team mate 3-4 times than you yourself get to kick them out or forgive them, no voting. During the fourth death or whatever number death it was, a message would come up as you wait to respawn which tells you that a certain team mate has killed you multiple times and the choice to kick them out or forgive them pops up along with it. I always forgave people, because it never looked like they were actually trying to blow me up. I chose kick by accident one time, and just like that, poof! He was out of the match, no ifs ands or buts about it. What do the rest of you think of such a system? I think it's only needed if there's actual friendly fire, otherwise I think it's kind of pointless in this kind of game. In uncharted 3 multiplayer, the only thing that can (or could) kill team mates were explosives.

I think the function is great and works well for getting rid of anyone who is being an asshole or AFKing or even cheating. However, it doesn't work as well in games with smaller numbers of players in each match, such as Left4Dead where it can easily be abused, for example 2 or 3 dickheads are able to have the vote majority and kick whoever they want for no reason.

L4D has a god awful community in general though, one of the worst I have ever encountered. The feature works wonders in Counter-Strike. Though the function can be used inappropriately to harm others, more often than not it is a valuable tool for players who want to play the game the right way.
