Hi everyone!

For my final year I am to conduct an investigation to why people hit the 'subscribe button' on youtube.
So I'll keep it short, to avoid tl;dr.

Why do you subscribe to a youtube channel?
And if you want to explain a bit more, feel free to post down some additional input.

The results of the inquiry will be anonymous and treated with the proper care.
Thanks in advance for your time.

(Also, yes this is the first thread I make and first poll I make.)

2 things.
If the video's are good and if video's are uploaded regularly. Not point in subscribing if the contents bad and the channel doesn't upload frequently.

I don't...I prefer to RSS my favourite channels. The Youtube email notifications are notoriously slow.

So I don't have to concentrate on finding videos to watch. At least, that's the theory. Youtube does its best to stop that happening.

if I don't subscribe, it means I have to check the channels regularly. If I visit the site, I end up wasting my time by watching same videos I watched 5x prior to that view. for me, its really to avoid distraction.

Because I will likely forget to actually check back on the channel. And then I'd be missing out on something I obviously liked to begin with. Subscribing is a lazy method of getting what you want.

So I don't have to manually search for new ones and let the updates come to my home-page.

The only time i subscribe to a channel is if i'm really interested in what the subscriber uploads next and want to see their new stuff as soon as it comes out. Examples: freddiew, Grasshyren, machinima (if only for Two Best Friends Play) and of course miracleofsound.

Simple, I'm lazy and the homepage tells me when new videos I like come out, I'd imagine that more or less goes for everyone really.

I like their videos and I would wish to keep noted about future uploads.

If they consistently upload videos I like and don't beg for subs every five seconds I sub.
Mmmmyeah. YOu mean with gigantic boxes in front of the screen? Or a gazillion boxes in the screen?

I hit subscribe on cool channels so that I can easily see if they updated by just going to youtube.

I am picky about what I subscribe to though, and I seldom subscribe to people just to increase their subscription status.

Ya know, I could use a few more clicks. I'm down to 49 people having voted and I would not mind having a little bit bigger pool to draw from. I see 300 views and ~50 people voted. 's funny to see that x3

Anyway, so far I am concluding that the majority of people are focussed on the content, where as other people simple like the easy way of keeping up to date on certain topics / subjects.

What strikes me odd is that noone has paid attention to the channel surroundings. I.e. the backdrop and suches. Do you actually pay attention to those at all or is it more blending away?

What? That's like asking ''why do you subscribe to a periodical special-interest paper''
Because i like or have need of the content it provides, of course.
Why would a person ever subscribe to someone because they have a cool page background.
That's like buying a magazine of previous mention because the cover looks cool.
