The Es-Cape-Pissed

That is how I pronounce it for you.
Which is wrong, there's no second 'p' sound after the cape....
No, you're wrong. There will always be a silent p. Always.

But... If it's silent then it still shouldn't be in the written pronunciation of the word...

How is this even a thing?

I swear, kids these days...

How to pronounce the 'escapist', seriously?

I just...

I can't...

If anyone needs me, I'll be in The Angry Dome.

Maybe he is doing something like I do with Chocobo... I hate the correct pronounciation of that, and have always pronounced it 'Cocoa-bo' in protest!! Its something that me and my sister have always done, as we thought it made them sound grander, and less like a piss take!
Unfortunately that also means I don't really like the parts of the series that have voiceovers... I don't like hearing the word any other way!!
You know until I played X that was one I changed often. Chalk-ko-bo was my way of pronounincing it. Of course the l is silent... Teefa or Tiffa? The one that me and my friend still can't seem to agree on is Ocarina. Aw-ka-ree-na(me) or Oh-keer-ra-na(him).
I'm a Teefa man myself... and I'm with you on the Ocarina front, but more of a sharp O sound (as in o-range) than an aw!

Pronunciation is a word that is very often pronounced with a 'noun' sound instead of 'nun'!

It's pro-nun-see-aish-on, but because pro-noun-ce has the 'noun' in it then people automatically put it into pronunciation too!

He's pronouncing it like it's related to "escapade" instead of "escape". Merriam-Webster [http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/escapist] to the rescue!

Or, for the lazy, have some WAV files: Escapade. [http://media.merriam-webster.com/soundc11/e/escapi02]

Tell your friend that "escapade" is a completely different word whose only relation to "escapist" is that they're doublets. They come from the same original word but took different paths to get here. They start as the Late Latin "cappa", meaning "hooded cloak", from which we also get "cape" and "cap" (but not "caper"). "Escape" and "escapist" come by way Old French. "Escapade" is via Spanish. It's why they sound different.

Me and my friend have a similar problem, except I pronounce it Awka-rie-na.

Also, no one in Canada can pronounce Mario correctly. It's MAW-rio, not MAY-rio.

The 'Scapist. Though I rarely say it out loud...
Same here. The 'Scapist is the 'Scapist. "Skay-Pist."
Couldn't have said it more like a linguistically lazy mild mumbler myself.

The 'posthrophe adds an elegance to these normal proceedings.

Surely that can't be right?
How do you people pronounce it?
For clarification on the poll option I want, I pronounce it.

S, K, PIST.

Which one is that?

This isn't an issue for a poll. This is a black and white, wrong and right.

You either say "Escape-ist", AKA eskaypist, AKA S-K-PIST ... Or you're wrong.

To be honest, I was expecting the poll to be asking about the pronunciation of "the," not "escapist." I pronounce escapist like the first poll option, escape-ist. As for "the," I can really see myself pronouncing it both ways ("thee" and "theh," though I have no idea how to spell them phonetically).

The truth of the matter is that I often say "zero punctuation" rather than the escapist, simply because it was the first show that brought me here, though it's no longer the only show I watch here. I even usually google "zero punctuation" even when I plan to watch loading ready run or something else.

When I actually say the escapist I do obviously say escape-ist
Haha, I do this too. When going here, I just type "z-e-r" into my url box and click "zero punctuation" and go from there.

Am I the only one who thought this was a thread about this forum dying out?

Thank you very much. I'm a bit of a word geek, this kind of thread was made for me.
