I planned on renting prototype today but when I went to the only rental store near my home (a 20-30 min drive) They didn't have it and the woman working their says it was just taken and because the person who rented it pays a monthly fee there is no telling when they'll return it.

So my question is: Should I wait and rent it or is it worth buying.

Note: Don't tell me anything about renting it through the mail, Im not doing that.

Also i saw yahtzee's video before anyone asks

I would buy it. By know you could probably get it pre-owned.

I thought it was a great game. Full of loads of amazing stuff. Probably the the best superpowered sand-box since Spider-Man 2 (its hard to say if its better because im a big spidey fan).

I could tell you a whole list of reason on why you should buy/not buy that game, however this would be pointless as I can't tell you your opinion. So I guess you could just rent it and see for yourself. If you like it then buy it if you want to that is. Or if you don't like it then don't buy it, simple right.

And there goes the /thread.

Rent it. If you like it, buy it, if you kinda like it, buy it used for cheaper, if you don't like it, don't buy it. Simple.

Rent it. It's relatively short and only good for about one playthrough. It's so fun though that it would be a shame if you missed it. So it's definitely a great game, but probably one you won't like enough to keep. I haven't played it since I beat it.

I'm gonna say but it. Even though the story has some faults, the gameplay is unlike any other super hero game you have ever played, it a good way.

Rent. Considering the only replay value is New Game +, which is the same game with all the powers at the start, you're better off playing it once. I started the + mode, but got bored of the same story. You do get some extra time searching for the whole web of intrigue, however.

I'd say give it a rent. I played it through once, thoroughly enjoyed every second, and then haven't picked it up since. I'm only keeping it because "one day, I'm sure I'll get the trophies!" :)

Unless you are an achievement addict (I am tired of being called a whore. I have never once recieved any money or sexual favors for achievements...well except once) then rent it. Going for the full 1000 will take you a long time and multiple playthroughs.

Definitely rent. It's fun but it's easy to get frustrated with it...which could mean it's not so fun. Maybe it's just me but I wouldn't dish out full price for it.

Rent, but Yathzee has a thing for Sandbox games...Infamous, Prototype, Saints Row 2 and GTA 4.
He gave all of them good ratings.

Rent it obviously, if you like it buy it sometime in the future, assuming you're renting doesn't cost that much you won't lose out on money if you rent AND buy.

If your under 12...buy
If your over 12...rent

Its as simple as that.

Rent, but then again most of today's games are only worth a rent so that's not saying much. Prototype is a good and fun game, but low replay value and no multiplayer means you might be better off just renting it or getting it second-hand.

I'd say buy it. Granted, one could easily complete the main story within a week's rental (I know I did), but the game is extremely fun beyond the scope of the story itself. Even if you don't care about the story or the missions, it is extremely fun to simply run around and go crazy. How did Yahtzee put it again? "Asshole value", was it? Either way, if you like simply screwing around, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more enjoyable title than Prototype.

Everyone will say rent because they're stingy but I think you should buy it.

Terrific gameplay and a cool story mean there's nothing not to like.

Not so sure about replayability though but it was certainly worth full price when it came out and it'll definitely be cheaper now.

If you just want to complete the game and aren't worried about achievements, then just rent it, it won't take long to do the main missions.

If you want the achievements I wait until it goes down in price. Don't pay £40 for it, wait 'til it drops to £25-30
