Poll: PS3 or 360?

All around the PC is the best but only if you can afford a real top of the line one.
The PS3 is a good machine and it has a lot of cool features but unfortunately developers never implement them in their games and the only feature that sony has made them utilize are trophies for some reason. If you already have a psp, definitely go with ps3. It doesn't connect with a lot of ps3 games (another feature devs ignore) but you get a lot of free stuff to download and it's a good hard drive to manage it on.
The 360 is cool and as long as you get a newly made one, you shouldn't have a problem with the rrod. However you will have to pay for online and it's mostly just a game machine.
Wii is good if you often have people over or if you have kids in the house. It's just a game machine though; you can't even play dvds with it.
Frankly I'm not really that impressed with any of the coices we've had this generation. Even with PC, all of these consoles seemed to have started with great promise and then tripped (or burst in to flames) out of the gate.

I've had a 360 for a while and I got the PS3 when the price dropped. Both are good in their own ways. My 360 is one of the Jasper models and I treat the thing with kid gloves, which means no red ring for me yet (knocks on wood). But you pay through the nose for lots of things Sony gives you for free (such as online play and a wifi adapter). However, the 360 also seems to have a lot more titles than the PS3, especially if you have one of the newer models without backwards compatibility opening up he library of PS2 games. Personally, I also prefer the Xbox marketplace over the PS3 store. There just seems to be more there. But for the actual playing of games...both are fairly close right now. PS3 load times tend to be shorter since you install a part of the game on your hard drive, but you can install on the 360 too.
Honestly, if you're getting a console, you should really look at exclusives. Do you HAVE to play Metal Gear Solid or Uncharted? Get a PS3. Are Mass Effect and Halo more your bag? Get a 360.

Between 360 and PS3, I would say that to me, the 360 is a better gaming console. Between the two, the 360 has the exclusive titles that I want to play (until Last Guardian comes out), and a much nicer controller design. However, God of War 3 will be appealing to most people when it comes out, and it's a Sony first party game, and the PS3 is a very powerful media centre, allowing you to play Blu-Ray discs.
The only advice I can give is to ignore everybody who foolishly tries to debate which one is "better." Look at the games library, look at the features, and decide which one is right for you.
