Our ancestors used to exicute people publicaly for crime. It served as a warning as well as the ultimate detterent.

But here is my question to you: Should we still exicute people convicted of crimes like rape or murder? Like lets say the man had his trial and was found guilty. Instead of sending him to jail for a few years and try to "rehabilitate" him they would just exicute him.

Any thoughts to accompany your vote would be appreciated.

EDIT: When I mean "They would just execute him" I don't mean like they would take him out of the court house and into a noose, just that he would be executed instead of jail time.

Note: Edited the post to include a "Only if it is private option"

Well I'm not a fan of the death penalty so I'm sort of biased as it is, I wouldn't agree with it. Just off them behind the scenes...

Now, corporal punishment and the stocks on the other hand...

This really won't end well. Your poll and title deals with the issue of public executions, while your actual question deals with executing a person immediately instead of waiting a few years. Thus, this thread will be a jumbled mess that will ultimately descend into a flame war over whether or not execution is humane or not. So, either change your topic question/paragraph, or change your title and poll to match. If you stay on the topic of execution immediately instead of waiting, I'll give you a free gift.

IF that the justice system knows for certain without a doubt whether the accused is entirely guilty or not, I would not mind. If the person has been convicted multiple times, then go for it.

Yes, it would serve a great deterrent. Even if it wasn't public, the death penalty itself would be a deterrent or at the very least, lower prison costs.

I wish it would.
A single bullet to the dome = about 25 cents.

Years and Years of keeping a convicted child rapist or murder = $232.7 million per year. (in ONE state!)

I think its pretty obvious.

Yeah, I need something to do on most weekdays, and that would definetly be a fun thing to watch. And, maybe, if we take it far enough, we could make it a game show called EXECUTION! Spin the wheel, and see how you die! But, watch out for the bear fight square!!!

The death penalty is stupid. It has no point. Nobody commits such a serious crime like murder thinking that they will get caught, so the death penalty is in ineffective deterrent against crime. Plus you never know if someone is 100% guilty. There is always room for error. If you find out that the person you just killed did not actually commit the crime, what happens then?

I really don't see why people approve of the death penalty.

I'm opposed to executions so I'm obviously also opposed to public executions.

If they find the person innocent after the fact than you are basically making lynching legal.

Your telling me that if your mom was brutally murdered you would want to see that guy back on the streets in a few years?

My personal opinion is that rapists and child molester should have their genitals removed in public, then beaten to death by the angry mob that is watching.

No punishment is to cruel for them.
Life they deserve not.

How am I supposed to respond to that? I have no idea how I would feel in that situation because my mind would be clouded with anger and grief.

But that's why you shouldn't obey the wishes of the victims. They're not thinking clearly. I would probably want that asshole dead at the moment, but I bet in the long run it would just make me feel worse because killing the murderer accomplishes nothing.

And then you find out that the rapist was actually innocent.

Do you not see the problem with such a punishment?

There's always a chance that the guy isn't guilty, so if we ever find out how to prove 100% that someone is guilty, I'm all for it. Freaking rapists...
