Random drops, mainly because the crafting confuses the heck out of me, I don't feel like spending extra money, and the trading system is god awful.

They come in random drops as you play the game (it can take a while), or by crafting. Or you can buy them.

Or trading. But DON'T go into servers and spam the chatbox with messages about what you're looking for. Trading has got to be the worst update the game has received.

Get the achievment unlocks, and then get drops, craft if you have alot of doubles, trading can be a pain in the ass but if you rip off stupid people you can get tonnes of shit. You can buy stuff if you want, I haven't though. I dislike the people who whinge about the weapons none of them really become useless and none of them are over powered if you use the right strategy.

I have all the gear you can get from achievements, and the rest is just what has randomly dropped. Never really got into the whole crafting thing, and fuck ever buying anything from the store.

There are some things that have exact receipes that I do intend to use at somepoint, but TF2 has taken a backseat while I play BC2, but I'm sure I'll go back to TF2 when I have more time over the summer.

I know alot of the competative leagues for TF2 are of the opinion either you can ONLY use achievement unlockable gear, or some only allow the use of the kritzkreig and no other unlocks.

Random drops mostly. Sometimes I'll trade someone something if I have an extra, but beyond a few useful items, I don't really want anything. The starting loadout for most classes are quite strong. Stuff I appreciate are things such as the sandvich, flare gun, ubersaw, or jarate because they're all very useful. It always must suck to be the random cloaked spy that steps in front of a sniper when I fire off a flare.

Achievements give you items as does just playing the game for awhile. Crafting recipes for items are online somewhere.

I'd advise you to NOT BUY ANYTHING as you can get it for free if you wait long enough, but I'm not you so, do what would be best for you.

In all honesty, just get the items via random drop/crafting. Since the items are meant to be "sidegrades," sticking with default weapons won't mean you'll be at a disadvantage.

Trading is a huge waste of time, as people are miserly bastards. Some moron came up with a "pricing" formula for every item in the game, and for some reason everyone uses it now. The only time I trade with someone anymore is if I want to get rid of a bunch of crates or if they're willing to swap hats with me.

As for the store...well, it's your money. If you're feeling charitable you could get the Japanese relief items that are still on sale (100% of the proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross). Otherwise I'd recommend you stick to random drops and crafting.

Actually they have all been made available to everyone, just look at your recipes next time.

Most of the items that I use are from drops; some I crafted, a small few I traded for.

I don't use the store, it's silly but I see that as the easy way out, so I try to work for my items.

Although it's worth noting that hats are basically impossible to craft, so if you want to complete a set that has a hat in it, you'll either have to fork over the moneys or go without.

Trading isn't fun to do with a server full of kids screaming, "HATS FOR CRATES!". But crafting is fun if your in a pickle and have to many items that you don't want. Random drops are random and unpredictable so its not like you can expect anything from your weekly drop. But if you want some of the simpler items I'm sure that there are a couple of people who don't need a Cloak and Dagger or a Backburner they don't need.

if you just play to have fun you'll get the items you need eventually. if you can't wait to get many many items to salvage and craft, then go for it. they made purchasing and trading for people who didn't want to waste their times playing to play o_O

I gave up on TF2 after my friend deleted all my weapons. Now the weapon acquiring system sounds overdone and stupid.

A combination of all four. Mostly just drops, crafting and trading though. I very rarely buy anything from the store.

I took a break from TF2 some time between when they introduced random drops and before the engineer class update. I had a go at crafting to make a hat for the sniper. That was it.

I went back in fairly recently to see if I missed anything good with the engie update and it was far too hectic for me. I liked getting new items via achievements. Oh for a vanilla server.

I trade when somebody wants something, I craft when I have a dozen items I'll never use and I wait for random drops.
