I find the length of Castlevania more appealing than Vanquish's 5 hour campaign. Just get New Vegas though. More bang for your buck.
Literally, since your game will probably explode with so many bugs it will go BANG!

OT: I was wondering the same as you. I saw a video of Vanquish, and as awesome as it looks, at the same time it looks like so much shit is going on at once. As for Castlevania, it looks awesome, but Twilight kind of ruined the whole Vampire/werewolf thing for me, and there is just no more appeal for them.

As a guy earlier said, it depends on whichever is your forte. The Gears of War-like gameplay, or the God of War-like gameplay.

EDIT: In my opinion, I say get either Enslaved or Demon's Souls. Enslaved for the wonderful voice acting and graphics. Pretty meh story and real fun platforming. But the main reason? Andy Serkis!! :DDD (Who is Golem from LotR, and did King Kong xD)

And Demon's Souls for the hard as balls challenge, and slightly fun gameplay. Shit character creation, though.
Yeah that one rad scorpion I found in the ground was a deal breaker. :p I guess it's different for everyone but Fallout 3 and Oblivion were in far worse shape when they came out. Hater. :D
Not a hater . I, myself, am in love with Oblivion. I wasn't a fan of Fallout though. Just something about it :T And not everyone gets the bugs. Some people might be lucky enough to get the patches, but I've heard reports of really horrible bugs all around. Then again, also heard reports of the game working perfectly, so meh.

I didn't mean to hate, just thought it a perfect line to use xDD

Hey, everybody! So I have this ache to get one of these two games, but I'm having a really hard time deciding which one. Each one has its pros and cons and any of them would make for an AWESOME game so I need you guys to tell me, according to your experience with each game, which one you'd choose. I downloaded both demos and both caught my attention (Enslaved too, that game is promising), so that's that...

VANQUISH
Pros: fast-paced action. New franchise. Shinji Mikami. Good replay value.
Cons: short. No story or memorable characters.

CASTLEVANIA
Pros: long game. It'll eventually have a sequel. Patrick motherfucking Stewart. Nice story.
Cons: not so hot platforming. Gets boring on the long run.

Take into account that these pros and cons come from several reviews online so I'm not sure how accurate they are.

Thanks, people!
Vanquish on hard mode!plus challenge mode....get it!
....its not short btw,you do challenge mode and facepalm every hour!

I would pick Castlevania, personally. I really enjoy the whole Castlevania story so it fits a better for me. I still haven't played the full game of Vanquish, I did enjoy it though while I was playing, bummer it's short.

That's another good Castlevania plus, it has a pretty darn long game story.

Anything but Castlevania. I haven't had a more frustrating time with a game in years, terrible camera that hinders both combat and platforming (I really can't stress this point enough you can't see enemies coming most of the time), dull and sparse combat and the game is split up in to levels that are over so fast as soon as you start to get in to the flow of gameplay there is another 2 second cutscene (you can really tell the influence of Hideo Kojima here) which dumps you on to a menu page for the next level.

Please don't waste money like I did and get anything else like Enslaved or Vanquish and if you do get it wait at least untill it is cheaper.

Also Patrick Stewart's character looks like Sean Connery it shouldn't matter but his distinctive voice just sounds wrong coming out of a character not based on his looks maybe thats just me.

Get Castlevania now, cause it's worth $60. Trust me, that game can last 20 hours just for one playthrough. And its replayability is amazing, since it has a New game+ thing going on. Plus, it's an amazing game as far as combat and platforming go. The music and story are way more interesting than Vanquish's as well.

I gotta be honest, I would really like to get Vanquish - the demo blew my mind, but its price is not justified to me. I will definitely check it out when it's between $30-$40.

TL;DR - Get Castlevania.
The demo and the game feel kinda different...the actual game has you rail shooting-stealthing-dashing-bashing-trophy grabbing. And it has the most unscripted Q.T.E.'s ever!I had to fight two bosses at once and killed one and got pawned...then on restart on the closet boss to me i one hit killed it before it transformed in an event that saved me the trouble of fighting his second form! It's like Demon's Souls-Die and its your fault!

Bad: It gets REALLY REALLY long if you're halfway through and the save file decides to randomly delete itself. This has happened to a number of people including me. There will be a patch, but no one knows when it will be
Um... that sounded so f***ed up that I had to see if it was literally like you said. And it is, it just deletes the save!!! WTF?!?!?!

Anyways... um.... yeah, I'm not getting Castlevania until I see Konami fixing this thing. It has got to be one of the most not-funny things to ever happen to anyone.
It's really f*****d up. The worst part about it is that it's actually been reported that it is more likely to happen immediately before the final boss than anywhere else in the game, although it's generally fairly random and can be anywhere. It's a good game otherwise and I'd still actually recommend you check it out after the patch but unless you have enough inexpensive breakable shit in your basement to accommodate a full on rage, I wouldn't pick it up right now.

I got both Vanquish and Castlevania at Kmart for $90 plus a $20 game coupon. Vanquish is just plain awesome and I haven't played Castlevania yet. I would say only pay full price for Vanquish if you are going to play it at least twice, which I most definitely will. Also, this week Kmart has Castlevania for $40. With the Castlevania save issue, I guess you could just backup your save after every play session just to be safe until they patch it. I also read that if you get the "unhandled" error thing and you just wait a minute, the game will save correctly and your save will be fine. Just don't quit the game or turn off the system right after the error.

Did you play any of the God of War games? Yes? Then you've already played Castlevania:LOS.
I played God of War I, II and III, and Castlevania DOES look similar, gameplay-wise. But how is that a bad thing? I mean, GoW is awesome, so if Castlevania is anything like it, it's probably awesome as well, right?
I know, I'm getting tired of the "It's just like God of War" label being put on some gams. Dante's Inferno and Castlevania are good examples. Yes they are both 3rd person action games, if you like GoW, then you will probably like them. But guess what, GoW 3 was kinda crap, it peaked 30 minutes into the game and then was all downhill from there.

Dante's Inferno was amazing. Great set pieces, great voice acting, amazing graphics, fun gameplay, beautiful stylized action, but since everybody on the internet has to have something to complain about, they said "it is just like god of war"... give it up people, it is a genre, 3rd person action... god of war wasn't even the first in the genra.
