You know, it would be between Natalie Portman and Robert Downey Jr. And thats not because I'm a shallow person who only knows movie celebrities (For example, it'd be incredably tempting to spend a day with Ron Paul or Jon Stewart) but rather because I actually do theater and really enjoy it and will probably end up minoring in it. Both of those people are infinitly better actors than myself and if I had a day just to talk with them I'm pretty sure I'd profit from the experience.

Plus, what can I say, they both seem like a lot of fun.

As for which of the two I'd pick ... If I was deciding before hand I'd probably choose Robert Downey Jr. If both just showed up outside my house and tried to convince me to drive off with them, I'd probably side with Natalie Portman. So, it depends on the circumstances.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Eh, I would not mind talking with Serj Tankien
It's Serj TankiAn.
Sure it would be nice to meet him, but i would rather meet Emily Browning. I have been drooling all over her since i saw Lemony Snicket.

Hmm, very tough choice. Though, priority would have to be Barack Obama. Next would be Stephen Fry, as he's a brilliant man and his life is incredibly intriguing, especially how he faced depression.

My initial thoughts are that females idolise their favourite celebrities because, quite simpily, they are cute.

ahah.
NO.

wow. the vast majority of females i know don't idolise someone because they're cute. the people I idolise, i do not see that way because they're "cute". it's because they have genuine talent or whatever. & I know that holds true for every female friend of mine that i can think of.

although, male: i'd have to go with jonny craig. talented man with one hell of a voice and personality.
or Jesse from Brand New.

female: i have no idea. There's no females I particularly idolise...
(I see you've moderated your own post here lol)

Ok, take for exhample the sucsess of the Twilight movies. Going by the word of MovieBob, the acting isn't that brilliant, the characters are bland, the plot is barely orginal, the only decent thing about it is the cinemagraphy. You would think that the movie would be a box-office fail, but it wasn't, the movie was quite a sucess. Why? Do i really need to answer who these millions of fan girls are wanting to see in the movie?

I mean sure females can respect male celebrities because they are not cute, for instance i know some who idolise James May (i don't think they find him cute.. or do they... o.0) and many females respect Obama. What i am trying to get at here is that "cute" male celebrity's like say Eric Bana have a much larger, much much larger, female fan base than "hot" female celebrities like say Megan Fox. I've never seen hoards of male teenage fans screaming for her number when she makes a public apperance. So, WHY is this the case? I have my theory, and if asked i'll post it, but i'm interested in what the Escapist has to say.

Have you ever asked a female who she looks up to? I mean, maybe you should do that as well?
I have, the idea for this thread comes from having a conversaton with one of my female flat mates about why Eric Bana is so cute.

Just saying, "This is only for male Escapists because females are essentially shallow" and then backing that up by saying you are permitted to make generalizations because it happens in psychology...that just seems kind of weak when you could have just as easily asked for both genders and then drawn your conclusion from that.
Yeah, i am sorry for giving off that impression. Firstly, i chose poor exhamples which has probably led some people off the point. My main point, the heart of what want to find out, is how come "cute" male celebs and idols have a much larger admiring fan base of the opposite sex as compared to "hot" female idols who don't have such a large admiring fanbase.

Edit: Double post sorry! To the other two people who quoted me. You both make valid points, and yes i chose poor exhamples. Read above as to what i am trying to get at.

male, because I don't know any female celebrities that are known for something other than being hot. What a sad world.

that said I don't really know any celebrities I'd really like to meet, except ones that are dead.

Ehh... Tough... And not because I'm not stright or whatever.

I'd really like to meet Stephen Fry, Clarkson, and other people like that, but then, who wouldn't want to spend a day with a sexy famous woman?

Who'd wanna spend a day with Kiera Knightly? You'd spend the whole day grossed out by how skinny it is.

I'd be most interested in meeting (and seducing) Kari Byron, but I have recently discovered that she is quite spoken for.

Failing that I'd love to meet and speak to either Scott Bakker (writer of the Prince of Nothing series and the psychothriller Neuropath, and one of my personal heroes) or Richard Dawkins. I'd like to discuss whether secularisation is really that necessary or even possible with him. Preferable while sitting in a comfortable leather chair and a snifter of brandy. I'd be wearing a monocle of course.

I'd love to chat with Mr. Fry in a gentleman's club (an ACTUAL gentleman's club, not a smarmy strip-club. A place where old men go to eat roly-poly pudding and fall asleep, free from their wives for a few hours)

We'd talk about all sorts of stuff

If I could speak French (or better, Italian) I would have a chat with Napoleon, because he is awesome

Meeting Thom Yorke is a dream. That means male.
This would have been mine, except that I already did. Well, if you count passing him in the street, with him seeing your Radiohead T-shirt and then giving you a look that says "Don't talk to me." That counts, right?
It counts. But it sucks. You see him, he basically says "GTFO."
Basically. It still made my day though.

Knowing me, that would be enough to make me happy for ever. I know a guy who saw Paul Banks before he was famous.
