Depends on how they're used. Games such as resident evil 4 used them perfectly but there are some games which appear to add them just because they can.

If they're used responsibly like in god of war hurt the boss a bit then get a quick time then it's all right. If used in excess then it's just annoying.

search bar.

i don't mind them too much. depends on the context really. replace boss battle with QTE = bad.
but they can be ok in the right situations.

i dont hate them to a point where they would make me think anyless of the game for having them in but i could do with out them like when i thought scourge in gears of war 2 i think thats hes name anyways havent played it in agers i thought that fight would have been really cool to actaully fight him not just keep pressing be everytime he used hes chainsaw on you, specailly if there lengthy aswell where you miss one or press the wrong button then having to start all the way from the begining can get abit anouying somtimes or if there are to many in a game.

Why do they get special consideration over any other game mechanic? Sometimes a tried and tested mechanic works and in other games it doesn't.

If they aren't strewn randomly, they're great! Indigo Prophecy, God of War and Shenmue used them very well. However, if they aren't well used, you can't predict when they happen, so you fail. A lot.

Liked them in Indigo Prophecy, Hated them in RE4.
Enjoyable if done right, atrocious if done wrong.

They can work as long as they are a core part of the game. Not just tossed around to fill pointless blanks.

There good for making some scenes interactive where complete control would be impossible. However, I do feel they're overused in many games. The worst offence is when they are used to replace an epic boss fight because the designers got lazy. I say use them to make intense cutscenes playable and nowhere else. Also, like Yahtzee said, make it known they are coming and reasonably beatable in one go.

Edit: Oh yeah I forgot. I'd like to mention Mercenaries 2 as worst example of bad ones because they were completely unnessesary (I know I spelled that wrong), and they gave you pictures that made you guess which button you had to press instead of just telling you the F***ing button.

i find if done right they can be good like after a really hard boss they are a snazy way to finish it i also thought the quick time events in kingdom hearts 2 made the fights a bit more exciting

They're alright if they fit and are done well, like in Resident Evil 4... I reckon those quicktime events were alright. However, if a game uses them excessively, really excessively, then it gets old fast.

They CAN be used well like God of War, then there's games like Ninja Blade where it might as well be called "Quick Time Event: The game" since every amazingly crazy cutscene is masked by you waiting for the next button missing everything interesting happening since you're staring at that same 2 inch area for the button you're supposed to press!

Like most people on here, I think that they are OK sometimes. For example, I liked the way they were used in Mercenaries 2, I felt it made the hijacking more interesting. However, I did not really like the way they were used in WET; they were a pain in the arse cos I'd get comfortable and complacent watching the cutscenes, with the controller resting in front of me, then without warning I'd get a bloody QTE thrown at me! Was also a bit disappointed at how the villains of the game are killed by this method, rather than actually facing them properly.

Wow, I really went of on one there, sorry! I guess to sum up, they're not great, but they're also not the worst thing in the world when it comes to gaming as far as I'm concerned.
