I was going to respond to the lack of Super Ghouls n' Ghosts from that list but seeing that you already have it all I can say is "Good man".

All those games are good choices but the order of what I would recommend buying first would be:

Super Metroid - Excellent all around. Great atmosphere and longetivity.

Super Castlevania IV - Damn fine, straight forward action game. Incredible atmosphere.

Contra III: Alien Wars - Short but full of wonderful action. Top down levels don't hold up well.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong - Fun platformer.

Kirby Super Star - Fun but really easy.

Earthworm Jim 2 - I honestly do not think this series holds up well today.

How 'bout Duck Hunt?
Alternatively: TMNT3:Manhattan Project

Also, why exactly do you think you're pathetic?

Really all of them are awesome, although I never really cared for Donkey Kong Country 2, but I'd go with Super Metroid. It's still an awesome game after all these years. Kirby is always charming, and Kirby Superstar I would say is the best of the bunch due to the variety, Castlevania IV is a classic, and Contra III will make you throw your controller and keep coming back. But really, if your choices are limited to what's on the virtual console, I'd go with Super Metroid.

Kirby Super Star. A bunch of mini-stories and even after you finish them all, you can unlock an additional two, which happen to be the longest ones.

I voted for Kirby Super Star. It's the only one of those games I'd want to play (okay, maybe Contra as well), and since you didn't give us anything to go on about your gaming tastes, there's nothing for me to do but pick the one I like best.

Although if you don't have A Link to the Past yet AND it's on the VC, forget about your list and get that.

Super Metroid is very over-rated IMO.
Agreed.

Just finished with DK2 for the first time and it was fantastic (if you're into classic side scrollers)

I never played it as a kid, so I know it's not the nostalgia talking
