A short memorial to my Ps3 which there is no hope for anymore... He was awesome. Now a silent minute... Done.

So my Ps3 has gone and.... well not died per say but it grinds games to dust and my warranty is no good anymore. So it's pretty much bye bye... Anyway, this is the second Ps3 to break on me, possibly the third, and this one I've had since late 2008. Now, I take good care of my consoles, never drop them or anything, try to keep dust away and so on. However how is this possible? I understand that the Ps3 failure rate is low and ps3's are built to last...? Atleast longer than about 2-3 years? So what's going on, am I unlucky, cursed or is the Ps3 more fragile than Sony would make it out to be?

Also, I'm either going to send it in and get a used one for 200 euro, or get a new one for 400 euros, and before you answer, if I don't get one now I'm going to be very bored next week waiting for a new one because I'm free next week! D: However if I get one for 400 I might not afford anymore games until the summer :(

Two dead PS3s?
Mine slim has been working sooo hard to please me, not given up yet.

Must be bad luck, those things are brilliant.

I came into this thread expecting something completely different. I am somewhat disappointed.
I suggest just getting a used one then so you can still afford to get some games...
I've actually had the same PS3 since the 80GB version came out. No problems with it at all. Guess some people are just unlucky >.<

Me, too. I thought that awesome character actor died.
D: Thankfully, it's only a stupid console that did.

Anyway, my 1001 PS (that's the first day release of the PS one, newbs) lasted 7 years before it crapped out. I guess Sony's quality deteriorated with each new model.
Did each of your PS3's died of the same causes or were they all different? o_Oa I'm inclined to believe that someone is slowly poisoning them...

I was going to choose the fourth option but judging by your avatar... you already have.

OT I would say get a new PS3, that way there is less chance that it will break down. Or if you don't want to spend that much money, get a used one.

Alternatively you could get an xbox 360 (much better) and then everyone is happy :D

Firstly "an 360" is incorrect grammar.

Say it aloud. "An three-sixty" Three starts with a consonant (when pronounced).

OT: I assume you have a library of ps3 games and your own reason for getting a PS3 initially so stick with it (I prefer the 360 but I'm not you).

Get an old school chunky PS3 and swap the Hard drive.

While I do realise how important free weeks can be, go for long term. I'm sure you can find more things to do, see it as a challenge!

Hmm... now that you mentioned it, they all have perished in similar ways... That's odd indeed o_O Anyone wouldn't know what could be causing any specific damage to the lence? ._.

That's so cruel being a grammar-nazi when I'm mourning my dead ps3 =( However I'd like to point out that my birth language is Swedish even though I've always lived in Finland, you can correct me when your Swedish skillz match my English skillz :) Anyway I admit my error, so make peoplez happiezer^^

Just send it in for repairs and foot the bill. No need to pop for a new one, or a "new" used one.

Unless you're like me and you gut systems that have the audacity to die on you in front of your other electronic appliances as a sharp lesson of what happens when they fail in the line of duty.
