Funny as hell when they're told as jokes.

When someone says a racist joke with conviction then it isn't funny and that guy is a racist ass.

As long as they are tasteful and the person takes the piss out of their own race as well then it's fine.

What you call a bunch of white peole running down a hill? Avalanche
What you call a bunch of black people running down a hill? Mud Slide
What you call a bunch of mexicans running down a hill? Prison Break

Don't call me racist cos i'm not

Racist or no, a joke should at LEAST be funny! Try again maybe?

As long as there's no actual hatred motivating the joke, I find it funny.

Also, its kinda funny just looking at us British, as the most common form of rascism is against gingers. Which isn't really that bad. But now we have the anti-muslim protests, and that goes up shit creek.

everyone is racist most just don't admit it.

I do enjoy a racist joke here and there. They are jokes after all so no harm done.

By the way, all you other white guys that are all offended by racist jokes, i have a black friend and i can make racist jokes in his presence without offending him, in fact often he joins in on it.

I need to take a picture of me with him so i can make a 'not racist' sign like Yahtzee's.

I don't care who is being insulted in a joke- It is simply that. Words do not (and, as a writer this is hard to admit) have THAT large an impact on... well, anything... anymore.
Unless the joke is not designed to to be amusing but instead promote racial violence; that would result in a violent *action*, which would be bad.

If it's a joke that isn't told through hatred or, more likely, stupid stereotypes then fair enough. Otherwise, not cool.

To clarify the stupid stereotypes bit, it's not that they shouldn't be used in humour, it's more that they've been so over-used that hearing them now just feels a bit tired and unoriginal.

Case in point - Roy Chubby Brown. I would willingly run him over and then reverse just to make sure.

As long as it's a joke, and not an actual hatred for a different race, then I'm fine with them.

A joke is a joke, unfortunately racist jokes are often a covert way for someone to express their own racial prejudices. 9/10 in my experience someone telling a racist joke is actually racist.
Its hard to advocate something with that sort of track record.

For those who only see it as harmless fun and who are saying people should "lighten the hell up" have obviously never been on the receiving end of racism.

There are boundaries where the laugh turns into a chuckle..partly because i know it's funny but it doesn't feel right to laugh out loud.
To be honest, i don't remember ever hearing anything so bad that it annoys me. Guess I don't mix with those people =)

typical foreigner, getting all touchy about jokes!

Seriously tho, it's a tough call sometimes, but it seems that it's how it's told and who is telling it that makes the difference, whether it's right or not, nowadays most comedians are seen as having the knowledge and understanding about racism to know that it's not ok, and therefore can step over that line in an ironic or knowing way.

Whereas if you go back to the 70s and 80s, to the Bernard Manning and Jim Davidson era, it really was just making fun of 'those funny looking darkies', which isn't the same and is obviously a bad thing.

(Incidentally, I was going to use the term 'darkie' in my opening line, despite obviously not knowing anything about the above poster, it obviously being a joke about the whole topic, but bottled out as I felt it could be misconstrued even in a comedy thread, shame really.)

Don't mind them to much when it's making fun of stereotypes, but it can get a bit stale if it's the only thing in a comedians repertior... Saw some stand up with Martin Lawrence, and it was all "We black people do like this. White people do like this. They so crazy!"

I love racist jokes as long as they're just that; jokes. I find that some jokes I've been told are more about expressing a racist view than actually telling a joke and that isn't cool. However, as long as the purpose of it is to actually make somebody laugh as opposed to vent bigotry then bring it on. ;) x
