I hate the X Factor because it masquerades as a talent show when it is in reality an excuse for Cowell to make money off phone lines, poor entertainment, and make a one-hit wonder out of someone who might be slightly talented.

Also last year's winner is being beaten by the runners-up and she has been Americanized which I detest.

However, this plan sounds exactly like what happened last year: they tried to get someone else's version of Hallelujah to number one, failed, and still gave Simon Cowell a bucket-load of cash (he owns the rights to all versions of Hallelujah).
It will either work, which would be pointless, or fail, which would be even more pointless.

Why does it matter? How often do you truely appeciate the garbage that goes into the charts & what kind of effect will this have in the long run?

People buying RATM to keep whoever won X-F from no.1 are worse than X-F fans. At least they have a legitimate reason to buy the CD/Album, they want to buy it & listen to it. RATM are probably insulted, you are not buying their song because its a good song worth owning. All you are doing is buying this song out of some petty childish spite towards a singer who's won a TV competition.

How belittling must that be for RATM? They are being compared to some spotty teenager who is getting 5 mins of fame!

Interesting idea.
However, I don't think this will work out well in the end. While everyone who watches X-factor is making one big effort to buy one song, everyone who doesn't like X-factor are bickering amongst each other. Some don't like the idea of fighting with X-factor, some do but don't like the song or the band. On the other hand, RATM appears to be in the lead for now, so maybe I am talking out of my apathetic American ass.
The idea of trying to organize against mainstream music is a good idea in my opinion. Sure it starts with RATM getting to the top of the music charts in the UK, but it could lead to a wider genre selection in the mainstream. I can dream of a world where I can at least here something metal in the school cafeteria, even if it is after the same station played the newest Beyonce single.

Let me get this straight, RATM for the Christmas number 1, with THAT song....really? OK it's a middle finger and what-not to the fans of X-Factor, but, it's also a big middle finger to good taste and the Christmas charts, that song, track sorry, not going to call it a song, is terrible, not herd it's competition, don't really plan to, not a big music person, I stick to what I like, not a big pop culture person either, but come on, the Christmas number 1 should at least be in good taste!

I support it, and will probably buy Killing in the Name. Nice two fingers for Simon Cowell and the legions of brainwashed X Factor viewers, and all money raised from it this week goes to charity. Also, they are winning . Although the actual CD's haven't got into shops yet for whoever it is.

I really loved Peter Kay's Christmas song from last year and I wanted that to be Xmas No1, not only to knock Cowell off the top spot, but also as I genuinely liked the song. However, Simon Cowell seems to take anything of this sort as a slight to him personally, which made Peter Kay's spoof all the more hilarious!

I have already purchased my copy of Killing in the Name, not for my like of the song, but for my dislike of the mainstream music industry nowadays, filled with manufactured flash-in-the-pan pop stars desperate for their 15 seconds of fame.

As you may be aware, an increasingly popular internet campaign [http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2228594104&ref=nf] has set its goals rather high, by attempting to make Rage Against The Machine's 1992 single, Killing In The Name, beat the usual X Factor tune to the UK christmas 2009 number 1 spot.

Although the money will end up with Sony either way, I think RATM reaching nummber 1 would still be a big middle finger to the X factor and British popular music (or 'System', if you like) as a whole.
