As you may be aware, an increasingly popular internet campaign [http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2228594104&ref=nf] has set its goals rather high, by attempting to make Rage Against The Machine's 1992 single, Killing In The Name, beat the usual X Factor tune to the UK christmas 2009 number 1 spot.

Although the money will end up with Sony either way, I think RATM reaching nummber 1 would still be a big middle finger to the X factor and British popular music (or 'System', if you like) as a whole.
You do know that Sony started this War?...
Yes, but this war is not with Sony. It is with the X factor.

It is our final chance to redeem and avenge our fallen brothers; our last hope.

And that Simon Cowell is getting money off RatM sales, especially when they skyrocketed after they "shockingly" swore an Radio 5.
Keep fighting for peace, bro... They're winning either way.
Most of us Wrestling fans are enjoying watching the public getting caught in this kayfabe.

In fairness all Rage's profits from it are going to charity. Although you make a good point, it's not about money, it's about the principle: we don't want to be told what to buy by corporations. This whole thing started in a Facebook group, Sony weren't originally involved.

You're still paying for a 17 year old record that screams "Fuck you, I don't do what you tell me!" while you're doing what it tells you.

You're all individuals!
Yes, we're all individuals!

If you want to make a difference, make your own music and ignore the kayfabe [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kayfabe], because people who play to this

aren't really living "on the streets", you dig?

I'm not the biggest fan of RATM, I'll admit that... in fact I think their pretty shit save one or two songs. However if the other option is a X-Factor winner then well I guess I'll just have to go out and purchase the new RATM album.

Evenif you don't care either way this campaign has made the chart race exciting for the first time in a loooong time. Whether or not I'm "sticking it to the man" is completely irrelevant considering I can get some entertainment out of competing against friends who are fairly big Joe and X-Factor fans, as opposed to getting no entertainment whatsoever out of watching Joe walk to the top.

So what if whoever wins the X factor will have the Christmas number 1. That'll be their only hit and no-one will remember them in a few years time.
Thats not the point!

X-Factor have taken all the fun out of who the xmas number 1 will be, for 4 years now X-Factor have guaranteed themselves xmas number 1 and enough people are sick of it to make a difference!

Go RATM!

A campaign like this crops up every year, and it never works. Mainly because people like the idea, but aren't willing to pay for it, and why should they? Nobody that I know cares for the music charts at all.
Guess what; it did

RATM IS CHRISTMAS NO. 1!!!! :D

I bought 3 copies a couple of days ago. I have to say, I love RATM, and no, they're not living on the streets, but they do a fuckload for the people that are, you should look up a history of the kind of stuff they do for loads of people in loads of foreign countries. And even if they weren't physically doing stuff for these people, then they're also massively raising awareness.

"Killing in the Name" isn't even a good song. Hell, none of RATM songs are any good lyrically and their musicianship is overrated.

Oh I dig, but that's not my point.

I'm not supporting it because of RAtM, I'm going against X-Factor. I see where you're coming from, the irony is evident and rich. But I'm not doing it to be individual or to go along with the crowd, I'm doing it to prove a point about X-Factor and all it embodies. Also, it won :D.
