Not all games used 999999999999999 as a large amount of HP/MP, typically games that used the Squared Number System used 65535. 2 to the 17 power I believe is 65536, close enough.

9999, max hit for the lazy final fantasy gamer in me and 99 as a level cap for so many rpgs I've played. 20 can go die though, stupid tiny level cap in KOTOR.
