I would, but knowing my luck no one will see/know/remember said rescue, but the moment I say, slip on the water that came out of the tank after I released the guy and knock into him, then everyone will be all over the fact that I hit a dude who was drowning.

I'd let him drown and charge people to come and watch the show. Especially if he's the moron who started another damn thread about drowning.

Gee. I probably would push the button. But it's all the way across the room. And walking requires so much effort. Can't that guy do it himself?

No? Oh fine. But he owes me. Cash. Lots of it.

Yea! what's with all these drowning threads lately? I wouldn't let the guy live either if he were one of those guys.

Wait so it's just one tank with one stranger in it and that's all we have to save? Well shit why wouldn't you press the button this is really a no brainer. Now had you made this "hurr your pet is in one tank and stranger in the other and you can only press one button" then it's essentially the exact same thread.

But anyways of course i'll push the button, unless it was hitler or something but it's a stranger so I don't really know.

Depends if he's a bad person or something.

If I don't save the stranger, will I be punished by the law for not doing it?

Nope, you are in some theoretical lawless state; this might explain how the "magician" was able to set up something like this in a public area without being apprehended.....also, you are the only one who can press the button. It IS a lot of effort for a stranger though.

In that case, I'll only save the stranger if I get a reward for doing it. What's the point in doing anything for anyone if you don't get something in return?

If they're a stranger, how are you supposed to know whether or not they're an asshole? Are they banging on the glass saying "Push the button, ******!"?
I'm pretty sure I'd let them drown if they said that, you have to be pretty fucked up to call the person with your life in their hands a ******, I'd be afraid this guy would kill me as soon as I saved him, haha.

Also I've to ask, how does this work: "Only if the stranger is somebody I know very well", I'm pretty sure it's impossible to know a stranger very well.
I think the op worded it wrong or maybe he just meant stranger in a different way, like you probably know who Will Smith is but you've never personally met him so one could maybe see calling him a stranger applicable. Oh, I wouldn't let Will Smith drown, while we are on the subject.

You can discuss your potential reward with the stranger while he is fully submerged in the tank : D

I think we need a forum that is nothing but endless drowning threads.

Would you save a cheese sandwich from drowning if it became sentient? Would you save your mom from drowning if it meant you had to walk in on her and your dad dry bumming a week later? Would you prefer to drown in cherry or strawberry koolaid? If you were drowning in the waters around the titanic, would you pee in the water to keep warm?

Drowning in so awesome, we all need more of it in our lives.

Will the person see me? Because I want the stranger to think that I'm some kind of mysterious hero.

I would probably help them outt and then find out how or why they got themselves into such a ridiculous situation.
Seriously a sealed tank of water with a quick release button? How does somebody manage that!?
If they dont give me a reasonable answer they are going straight back in for the next passer by to rescue.

Well, I'd help him/her since, under the circumstances, not doing so would mean that I am actively making a choice that leads to another persons death - which is basically the same as murder.

Also, what is up with all the threads about people and animals drowning here on the escapist all of sudden? What, did Nyan Cat's cousin, Drowning Cat, became a meme around here while I wasn't looking, or something?

Yea, my source of income is working in a Leisure Centre as a lifeguard so I guess I'd feel obliged.

The tank is made of glass, so yes
