Mortal Combat has more modes so it'll probably last longer. MVC3 pretty much has just an arcade mode and a VERY crappy online mode.

Okay, so the only fighting games I've ever bothered with were DoA 3 + 4 (which were both bloody horrible) and now I'm in search for a new fighting game to play with friends and possibly my sister. I've never been particularly good at button mashing so one that's easy to learn would be good. Also as a side note: fuck the ratings system in this country, if I have the money for a game then I have the right to buy it and I won't accept the classic 'We're protecting the children" bullshit.

So which should I go for; MvC3 or MK?
Poll is flawed. What about Street Fighter 4? If your looking for an experience that's "bloody horrible," then I'd definitely recommend Mortal Kombat.
I've stated this before. Delving into the fighter genre is something I'd probably only do once in a decade and these two games are the only ones I remotely care about. Everything else just doesn't exist in my universe right now.

I'd go with Mortal Kombat. I find it way, way more fun because you can play as technically or simply as you want.

I feel tricked by Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. I got that game to team up three characters I really like; Spider-Man, Iron Man and Viewtiful Joe. Guess which three characters I'm worst as.
Some characters just seem way more difficult to play as, when others can be so damn simple and still get better damage. *coughcoughSentinelcough*

I think what I'm getting at is I suck at Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, so I didn't enjoy it. I kinda suck at Mortal Kombat too, but watching blood and guts fly everywhere while losing is more fun than watching three beloved characters being locked in the air having their ass handed to them in 30 second long combos.

From what I've heard (you can of course do research on this for better intel), Mortal Kombat isn't too different from all of its predecessors, which means that it's simplistic and doesn't have a lot of variety, but that if you want some gruesome finishers, it's for you. Marvel vs. Capcom will probably keep you playing a lot longer, as it has a great deal more variety.
