As far as im concerned the Dwarfers all died fighting their future selves at the end of series 6. There hasn't been a single good thing associated with it since. All the interviews and behind the scenes i've seen with Doug Naylor talking about how much he loves 'Freinds' and is really excited that the next series will feature 'high budget CGI' has utterly convinced me that he was the half of Grant-Naylor that didn't know s**t about what made it so good.

Seriously, go and read all of the books the two creators have published since and you can tell from a mile off that Rob Grant knows humour and Doug Naylor knows plot. Together their a perfect combination, tho Grant has enough legitimate humour to gloss over the lack of plot whilst reading Naylor is like some really unfunny git trying to tell a funny story.

Red Dwarf was/is great.

But 8 series? That's enough, lay it to rest; living up to a great series often hampers a reboot (or continuation).

Hmm... After Back to Earth, I'm not so sure...

I got my hope up when it was announced, and then...

On the other hand, my love of Red Dwarf (I've watched all of series 1-8 so many times, at least once a year >.>) and the fact that the trailer seems pretty good (Especially the bit where Kryten was telling Rimmer he was lost in a Poker game) makes me intruiged...

I'll have to keep and eye on it (Though it says it's going to be exclusively on Dave? Hoping it gets onto DvD soon since I don't get TV anymore)

As long they ignore the last two seasons like they with Back to Earth (when they replace Rimmer with Kristine and onward) or take place when just them 4 in Red Dwaft and also bring back the studio audience voices than all is good.

I don't really know what to think.
For the majority of my life I was as big a fan of Red dwarf as you can possibly get; but anything after series 6 has been lacking the old magic. I so desperately WANT to like it, but I just can't.

Fingers crossed they get it right once again, but judging from that trailer, it doesn't look particularly funny.

Very, very nervous myself. Series 1-6 were excellent, but the more recent ones have been not up to snuff. Judging from the trailer it looks like they've decided to scrap the series 7-8 developments and gone back to a series 6 style. Has potential, but I'm not 100% convinced. I'll watch it though. They've got enough good under their belt to warrant a chance.

On a side note, saccording to IMDB, Craig Charles (Lister) is almost 50. Damn. And he's the youngest of the returning cast, the others have already hit a half-century.

i don't see why everybody thinks everything after series 6 was like a scutter giving you the finger. some really great season 6+ episodes were:
- gunmen of the apocalypse
- rimmerworld
- epideme
- nanarchy
- the three 'back in the red' episodes
- the two 'pete' episodes
- and only the good
But yeah the seasons 2-6 where the very best.

if you love Red Dwarf: damn right

if you have never ever heard of Red Dwarf: download it or something. at least watch polymorph with the calm, pipe-smoking Rimmer (there is only one problem - the abbreviation is C*I*O*I*) and the polymorph (apparently it was an attempt to create the ultimate warrior, a soldier who could adapt to its terrain and evade its enemies. so what went wrong? IT'S INSANE!!!)

if you hate Red Dwarf - Smeg You!

They sure have aged well. I watched 'em as a teenager, and now I look older than Rimmer...

Consider me tentatively excited. As GLADOS once said, it's been a long time.

well, judging by the youtube clips, i'd say it's mildly amusing, but not worth my time.
Also, anything with a laugh-track is really off-putting for me.

I saw back to earth,

I still hurt!

Huge Smeghead back in the day and still have fond memories of friday nights with a curry and a few beers waiting for a new episode to show.

"He's Arnold, Arnold, Arnold Rimmer.

More More reliable than a garden strimmer.

He's never been mistaken for Yul Brynner.

He's not bald, and his head doesn't glimmer."

Does this mean that they have classed Back to Earth as series 9, that's a shame I love Red Dward and hopefully this new series will be as excellent as the orignal episodes, however the less remember about that poor trilogy the better (this is however purely my opinion).

This has...potential.

I thought the UK essentially fucked over Red Dwarf, though, saying they didn't like 'their kind of audience'.

I loved the old Red Dwarf, I even liked the later seasons, but I worry that they wont have anything new to offer. And christ, did they look old in that video. Its gonna be hard to create a 'lads mucking about in space' vibe when they all look ages with my Dad (in fairness, they are all ages with my Dad, but still).
