No, it's just a custom game option. The possible team colors are red, blue, green, purple, orange, gold, pink, and white.

In matchmaking you'll never see more than four teams: Red, Blue, Green, Orange.

There was also another scientific study that showed red uniforms were 1000% more likely to die first and in horrible circumstances then other colored shirts (when in a group with other colors).

Guess red is good for a team color, but fails when you mix them with others...

No, they are teams. You can have red, blue, green, gold, pink, brown and a few other teams.

Yep. And as long as we aren't confined to FPSs, Age of Empires did the same thing, but with a few more colors. (Cyan...maybe some others, I'm not sure)
