I reckon that it should be added as an option therefore there can be people like me who don't care for adverts in games as I wll play regardless but those that hate ads in games can still pay to remove them.

Sorry, I'm coming late the show here, and I am not reading through 5 pages of discussion. So I will make my point and move on, if I am repeating anyone else, sorry.

There have been plenty of games that have had in game advertising, only the price of the game was the same as all the other games out there. So you idea is good, but the gaming industry has decided to pass the buck... to them selves. You pay full price for a game and the advertiser pays as well. For a game developer that is having your cake and eating it too. We, the gamers, have not seen the benifit of in game advertising yet, and as such I am against it. A precident is being set, and it is a bad one.

The same goes for movie theaters. You are paying more for movie tickets now, but there are 10-15 minutes of comercials before you even see the first preview. This is a bad trend in advertising in general. If you are going to add manditory advertising, drop the fraking price.

I don't understand at all why people are saying no

I have said it about 1000 times now, the DEVs would be making the advertising so it would be nothing that would annoy you or get in your way anyway

Maybe its just people with more money than sense
Umm, no I don't agree with that statement at all. It's inflammatory and just welcoming an argument and an ensuing banhammer from said argument. It would definitely get in the way in my opinion. I like getting immersed in my games, MMO and non-MMO. Advertising in game would disrupt that immersion for me.
Do you think nuka cola broke the immersion of fallout 3? no?
shut up then
Like someone else stated, last time I checked Nuka Cola was not a real product. Also, I don't understand some people around The Escapist. I don't really enjoy being told to "shut up" after expressing my opinion.
and like I have already posted
Did I SAY nuka cola is real? no.

Wow.. You really need to grow up. Let's call someone names in a forum, on a website, and feel just a tad better about themselves. I'll just take my illiterate behind to a different forum were some opinions are respected. *waves*

I agree :)
It's about time that the gaming industry started to share the benefits of having in game advertising

there could be endless results for this while i like the idea of not having to pay, i know its not going to happen.
but i mean maybe a trailer while waiting for the servers to come up. Some billboards over the place (not to many). places being renamed so instead of ted's sword shop now its mr tesco's sword shop and down the road of course is mrs audi selling horse's. so not to much advertisment but it would be better paying £5 a month instead of £12 a month you know what a mean. :)

So mostly then

that £7 off a month at the end of the year is a saving of... £84 a year? (i have only just got up...) id be more than happy to see a couple of adverts and save that much

Probably depends on the game environment. I'm not sure if i'd like it. My whole world is surrounded by advertising, to have it intrude into my "Escapist" world wouldn't be cool.

Ok... saaaayyyy... a star wars game? your fighting in the middle of an ultra advanced city? surely adverts would fit right in there?

What sort of advertising should it be. Hopefully not the sort of rubbish thats on facebook, its all scams that either want to infect your pc or steal your money.

Imagine getting a quest in WoW and the reward being some gold and red bull, which literally gives you in-game wings, that'd be awesome, if you can't see it, then your not cool enough

There is no justification or rationalization for product placement and TV-style advertising. It is the enemy of intelligent thought and artwork.

Actually thats been done. Anarchy Online did that, and they have an option to play for free, which is where "fr00bs" came from. Theres also the option to pay, and you get perks and some other stuff for subscribing, but it is not required, and they have ads around the cities, not really a big deal it fits right in. Its actually a pretty good idea! I think there may have been another game that had ads in it but I cant remember.... was it 2 moons?
Thank you ^^ your the first person to actually give some positive feedback :)

so what where the ads like? im guessing not in your face and mood breaking?
No the ads werent mood breaking or in your face. It might be a tiny poster sized thing of a pespsi video ad. In Anarchy Online it kind of fit in because it had technology and everything. In a fantasy game like with swords and axes bows and magic, it probably would seem out of place a little but if something so small ruins someones perception of the game to the point where they wont play then they are being extremely childish. Just throw a tantrum and stop playing that will help! Theyre tiny little ads. And for one thing, I find it to be extremely rare for game to be so good I forget that im staring at a computer screen. I mean seriously.... you really feel like youre in the game? Dont be such a baby to those who say ads ruin the game for them so they stop playing.

Edit: Free MMOs are free because youre handicapped into needing/wanting things from their "Item Malls". They seduce you into spending easily $60 a month. I lie not. Free MMOs always end up costing you more. Stay with Pay to Play. $15 a month or less straight and solid and you get a game like the free MMOs should make but dont.

My example to show you? Silkroad Online. Go ahead. Look it up.

Geez, if WoW had no subscription fee, I'd definitely play it again! Who cares if I have to look at a few McD's adverts on the side of buildings? They could still make it fit with something like "McHorders." I don't know, they could make it work. That sounds like a great idea.

Thats a brilliant idea! I still don't know why I haven't looked into City of Heroes...
