i think it would be a really cool idea. i'd like to see what theyd come up with in terms of originality.

or they could also have some items you could get that could be used as in-game adverts.

Advertising is from the devil. Having it in my game not only lessens the game, but makes me avoid it completely. Not only would it not be used tastefully, it would be abused to the highest amount possible. McDonalds in Azeroth? You better believe it.

Advertisers are nothing but scum. They waste perfectly good air that can be used for something better, like letting lawyers talk and cows fart.

as long as they dont go overboard. like dont have commander Shepard say something like "pheh, those geth are tough. wait a sec, i want to drink some pepsi first.
Sorry, but that's exactly what would happen.

I think paying per month would be better for MMO's than in game advertising. Imagine WoW with mountain dew ads plastered everywhere. Really sucks you out of the universe.

its the age-old contract (from the 1920s)
on one side, we get free (or less expensive) gaming
on the other, advertisers may place their products in the games (though we would have to monitor this situation very carefully, for failure to do so would get us 'gaming-freeways' where the ads are everywhere and pay for nothing)

Hey Microsoft, Blizzard, you two listening to this? We got a genius on our hands here. Though, I'm kinda laughing right now, imagining an epic dogfight in space only to have a TIE fighter slam into a floating Geico billboard.

How's that gonna work in fantasy games?

Imagine that... Ironforge has been renamed to: Coca=Cola presents Ironforge.
Orgrimmar will become Pepsi presents Orgrimmar.

Fun times! But seriously I have no problems with it... even though I had no idea the Corusant was partial to McDonalds.

ok yeah its a little bit trickier in fantasy games

hmmm... say... if we are playing lord of the rings online or something similar, there could be a sort of worn down painted on the side of a house kind of advert, with 3 dwarfs sat around a table drinking from goblets... then at the bottom it would say something like...

"Budweiser... only dwarfs know true quality" :p

Lots of free games already do in-game advertising to make the game free. Some free games also charge REAL money for stuff to use in the game, which is just ridiculous.

Whatttt?

Anyho, Im amazed no company has hit upon the idea of doing the F2P with instore and making Epic items cash to unlock (Resaleable onto others but cash to unlock)
I think they have just haven't worked very well, i used to play a game called Knight Online, if you wanted to be amazing at it (fast) you had to spend some cash

I like the idea of if yuo want to go through the game quickly with good items you should have to spend some cash because i know there are tones of people out there that would

it would also make the in game market more intresting

Read this http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/issues/issue_198/5990-The-Gloom-Box
I dont think ads would help, they might just cause a decrease in subscribers, and i that post has hit the nail on the head.
