Do you base your game choices on replay value? I ask this because I don't really care to replay a game over and over after I'm done for whatever reason. If the actual game itself isn't good, I'm not going to go back to it anyway, so why put so much focus on it?

It depends on what I'm looking for.

If I want to pass the time, I want replay value.

If I want a unique experience, then it doesn't matter.

If I'm paying $60 for a game, I'm going to be damn sure I'm getting my money's worth. These days that basically means I only buy shooters and RPGs, the 2 genres with the most lasting appeal if you ask me.

Not really. Replay value is nice, but for the most part I preffer a solid one-time experience to a replayable mediocre one. However, my standards on what constitutes "replay value" are a bit high. Generally, getting to play through the same game with a slightly different character or with slightly tougher enemies isn't enough. The whole experience must be fresh enough.

As a result, most FPS and Action games have no immediate replay value and I can only touch them again after 6+ months. RPGs tend to fare a bit better, at least the western ones where I can influence the story. Dragon Age was good for about 2-3 playthroughs since every major quest in the game had at least two major outcomes (and often a number of minor plot points as well).

Strategy games are a mixed bag. The more freedom the game offers me, the more replay value I can get out of it. Total War games tend to give me a lot, as do Civilization games (especially Alpha Centauri). However, something like Warcraft 3 or Tiberium Wars is too linear and on-rails for immediate replaying.

Nope. I only replay games if I REALLY liked it the first time, and that's just a small sliver in comparison to all of the ones I own/play.

So you also buy only fat books and long movies?
I don't buy books or movies.

My purchases aren't based on replay value. However, my reviews and any comments I make about a game after playing it, are. My positive word of mouth is greatly influenced by it. Not having replay value will see me spewing very negative comments.

No. Arkham Asylum was good, but I've got no desire to play it again. In truth, the boss battles have got quite alot to do with that.

On the other hand, I still play Pharaoh.

I don't buy games purely on replay value but I personally think that highly replayable games are the best sort of game. It's like, this is something worth exploring, not just taking a quick guided tour.

I do base purchases on replay value in that I'll initially rent them, and if it's something I know I'll want to play again then I'll pay the extra £8 or whatever to keep it. I definitely don't base play choices on replay value.

I demand replay value in all my games. If I buy a game, I'm not buying it to resell it again in 2 weeks to play something else. I want to get months out of a game (not total play time), preferably years. Oblivion, Jedi Accademy, Garrysmod, L4D2, TF2. These are all games I keep coming back to. The last game I bought was L4D2 and that was pre-ordered. I won't buy any more until theres something I really care about.
