Hm... some good suggestions here. I think I may end up going for a kind of compromise - violent, but still stealthy. If a guard seems like a complete bastard, I'll kill them. If they seem nice, I'll leave them be. I can still try out the other powers and weapons without strolling right through the enemies and making myself known to them before killing them.

Does anyone know if it's possible to not have Emily become a sociopath but still get the "High Chaos" last level? Or do they go hand-in-hand? I do like the sound of the high chaos final level but would kinda rather Emily stay innocent.
I believe the 'Medium Chaos' path will give you the High Chaos final mission and a somewhat disturbed and scarred Emily, but not a sociopath Emily. Its tricky to get though if you're aiming for it, it involves killing many but not all the NPCs in each level, so if you kill to few you get low chaos, kill too many and you'll get high chaos.

This page might help, but you might have to do a bit a research to see just how many kills you can make without going into 'pure' high chaos

Having a high chaos level does make the last level pretty interesting, and if you've been a super murder-y asshole, is harder just because of that fact.

I'd say it's worth it to go for a "Have fun with your toys" play through because as someone who's done the mostly stealth route, and the Ghost/No Kill runs before going high chaos, can say it's very refreshing to let loose.

There's also just a lot of missable stuff you can try and see again, like hearing the other things The Outsider has to say. He comments on the mission targets, and what he says changes depending on if you've dealt with your target, and if you did so lethally or not.

There's also a kinda hidden 3rd ending that you can only see during a high chaos run, so that might be some reason to play that mission over if you have a High Chaos save.

I've played Dishonored multiple times, and I'm not entirely sure what extra ending you are talking about. Can you please elaborate? Feel free to use the spoiler tags if you wish, but I'm curious what you're talking about. xD

Though I think they played up Emily being a little psychopath too much in the game itself.
Only if you go high chaos. Low chaos Emily is perfectly normal for a girl who watched her mother murdered, and was kidnapped and held in a bordello for weeks before being rescued...only to be kidnapped again. Yeah, she's got some damage, but it's hardly psychopath levels of it. xD

Ok, discard my vote for "Stealth". That'll teach me to vote and read the full OP after that...

If you've already got a stealth low-chaos game, it might be interesting to go for a high-chaos one, with stealth and more in-your-face actions. You'll be able to see things go a bit differently and will have to adapt your playstyle as well.

Of course, ideally, another playthrough where you do things exactly like you want and prefer, without bothering with all that chaos/stealth gameplay, is a good idea as well.

In the high chaos ending, you can either save or not save Emily at the very end. It's actually a bit hard to do the latter, normally, at least, as at that point you're stocked with powers, weapons, and tools and you can very easily dispatch the guy who is holding a gun to her head and then walk the few paces forward and grab her from the ledge. I did, in fact, try shooting her but apparently my bullet only hit the guy behind her. However, if you wait long enough when she's hanging from the ledge ("long enough" is not more than a minute, though) she finally loses her grip and falls to her death.

I actually kind of liked that ending the most. It paints Corvo's story as really tragic - he turns the whole city upside down, murders lots of people in the process and makes the whole situation worse in general, all in the name of getting to Emily...who he finally fails to save.

Hmm... does sound like the best of both worlds. Scarred Emily sounds like a fair compromise, she has been through a lot to say the least. I like the idea of going for that... but at the same time, as some people are now suggesting, it's also kinda tempting to just play and react to each situation however I feel at the time.

What I may do is save a new file after every mission, so that if I do end up with another low-chaos finale, I can reload and crank up the madness to go for medium (or high) chaos.

Thanks for the info & link!

When I played Dishonored I did two back-to-back playthroughs. The first was stealthy, the second was chaotic. If it's been a while than take your time and go through the game stealthily. If you just wanna have a blast and make Dunwall your ***** than go for chaos. I found both styles to be fun and worthwhile...though stealth was definitely better in the Mansion Party level in my opinion...

Prime example of the "gaming to an end" mentality. Not my bag.

Just play it how you want to, don't let a trophy constrain you.

I've played through Dishonored (and the expansions) a few times now, and each time i've gone in without a preconceived playstyle in mine, winged it, and had very different experiences each time.

I was surprised to learn about it too when I finally did. And it's just as DoPo said in his spoiler tag.

Once you get to the end of the last level on High Chaos, when you finally reach Emily and the dude who's holding her, instead of using your abilities and whatever to save her, you simply walk forward, and the guy will jump off while holding onto Emily, and then you get the ending where the Outsider praises you for keeping things interesting.

That ending is one of the reasons why I think The Outsider is one of my favourite characters in general, and hoped that he would be the only common character between the games, as Corvo's story appears to be wrapped up just fine.

Ah, that. Ok, yeah I vaguely recall doing that ending when I first got the game on release. It didn't really stick in my mind though.

The High Chaos ending was the most satisfying, as was the gameplay. My first playthrough was a Low Chaos one, and I didn't get to try most of the powers/gadgets and the ending was was very anti-climactic. I enjoyed my second, High Chaos playthrough a lot more.
