Damn, I love that game although I haven't touched it in about a year. This thread has made me think about playing through a few of my older games. Well there goes my free time.
I love replaying it trying different strategies. I've yet to try a freighter only run or working with more neutron weapons... Oops, there I go gushing again :D

Freelancer is a great game! That is one of the only games I've replayed. That and the PoP games.
For some reason I can replay sands of time without getting bored of it. Pretty strange.
Sands of time is a replayable game alright. I love the mechanics of it.

I managed to win that race in the Bretonian system by using a freighter while my friend had trouble with a light fighter. No idea how I did it but I never let him live it down.

Replay value is one of those things I grade games on. If a game has no replay value, I actually dock it points. My favorite games, like Deus Ex and the Thief series, I've played five or six times.

I only really Replay games if there are multiple endings, or it was just a fun game with a lot of ways to play it.

If i enjoy a game enough I'll keep playing it no matter what. Most of the time nowadays i replay games just to collect achievements and familiarize myself with a game's environment.

I've played Fable 2 three times through. I usually have to wait 2-3 months before I want to play it again.

I dont get it. It seems everyone and their dog likes to play a game more than once, and I simply dont get it. Once you've finished a game you know the story and you know whats going to happen, so why bother? Its the same reason I dont read books more than once or generally dont watch movies more than once. Its just boring once you know whats going to happen.

So whats the deal? Why does everyone enjoy playing through the same game more than once?
it really comes down to how much you enjoyed the game and the story that was presented, i've had to replace my copy of Planescape:torment twice, once due to accidental breakage and the other from actually wearing the cd out, it remains my most liked rpg game despite it's aged graphics.
and despite it not being an rpg i feel the same way about the silent hill series (and yeah especially the earlier ones from japan)

i replay because i liked them

I have way too many games on my backlog to replay them. Plus, for me it's just not as fun the second time around.

On rare occasions I will, though; I replayed some nostalgia-tastic Pokemon games a little while back, and I'm replaying Mass Effect (on PC; I first beat it on 360) so that I have a save to use on ME2.

I imagine myself replaying a little more in the future; once a few years have passed, it's very unlikely I'll remember anything but the standout moments of many games.

I picked yes, Immediately, but not really..
It really does depend on how good the game is.

Eg, I have played Mass Effect over 30 times, ME2 about 20 times. Dragon Age about 20. KotOR about 50 times, KotOR 2 about 20.

Those are the first that came in to my head, as they are my most recents.. But I only play games with replayability value to them.
I will probably never play any of those games ever again. Perhaps once more many, many years from now. I cannot for the life of me fathom why anyone would play through any of those games more than twice at best.

Reading the rest of the thread now, I see you've addressed this. To each their own I suppose. I would rather experience something new than a game I know front to back, personally.

The irony in me typing that, is nearly all I've played this last month is TF2 and L4D2. I personally chalk that up to them being perfect pick up and play games which is important when you've got a 1 year old running around the house.

When I replay a game I notice little nuances in the plot more, and hone my skill at its gameplay. Also because a game always ends before I want it to.

Here's my quirky habit: I never usually 'finish' the game before restarting. I only do the endgame stuff when I'm satisfied with what I accomplished up to that point. Sorta OCD about that stuff, when I read online all the crap I missed or didn't do right then I gotta start all over again. If I have done it all right or right enough then I'll usually finish it and shelf it because I burnt out on seeing so much of it. Very rarely will I pick it up again unless it was awesome but do those restarts count as replay value?

It depends on the game. I played Dante's Inferno 3 times back to back because I had so much fun and I wanted achievements. Usually I'll replay a game if I'm interested after a year or two. Then there are some that I just can't escape from. I've played Prince of Persia the Sands of Time more times that I can count.

I used to replay games constantly. These days, the current games just don't hold up anywhere near as well as older ones, so I don't do it often at all anymore.

With most games I beat, as soon as the credits finish, I immediately go to "New Game -> Hard(er) difficulty" or "New Game -> Different character(s)" If a game has nothing new in store on the second playthrough, it's not worth getting. Unless it's either cheap (like a Wii Ware game) or has kickass gameplay.

While Ninja Gaiden (NES) has no extra difficulty modes or other such bonuses, it's still fun once in a while to have a go at those damn birds. Also, after the first playthrough, every level before Stage 6 seems so much easier, as you sprint about and merrily cut down every pathetic rocket-launching soldier, boxer, and football player that stands in your way.

Well, the thing about multiplayer games is that you always get a new experience every time you play it.

Titles usually need to be short (~10 hrs) and really good for me to replay them. That being said I have occasionally replayed much longer ones that I really enjoyed.

respectfully im quite opposite in your opinion

i replay rpg's (the ones i do like) around 20-30 times, depending on the game so far, because i like the story and characters that much usually

there are some though were i have to push through barely once, then i resell that shit immediately.

and also on games like gta i am complete opposite, i play those games for maybe a half hour to an hour and im done, they get so boring because you do the sasme thing over and over, explode shit and do whatever you want with minimal output from the AI or the story itself. thats just so boring to me that i fall asleep on those games.

now with books, i hardly ever read them, since most of them are so god damn boring, but the few i do like (a few of them are among the halo books) i have reread a good 3-4 times now because i just enjoy them that much.

its even worse with movies, i know exactly what is going to happen in every movie i have already seen, but for some odd reason action/comedy movies i love to rewatch over and over and over, i literally watched happy gilmore for a week straight (my dvd player was stuck too) but i actually enjoyed watchign it like 15 times.

Meh I dunno. I agree 100%. I even ask myself this question many times. The honest answer is, the games are just amazing. Its not just the story, or the gameplay, or the music, or the graphics, or the acting.. its the whole package. And these games deliver every aspect of a good game perfectly. (not perfectly, but I'm too tired to think of a better adjective).

Even though I know the story of Mass Effect, and every single word of dialogue in KotOR back-to-front.. I will NEVER get bored of these games. Its familiar, its brilliant, its genius.

Its an absolutely crap answer, I know.. its just.. I love them. Like re-re-reading a favourite book. you could know the words in your sleep, but it just feels so right.
you summed it up perfectly

I play a couple of my games more than once. Usually it's at least 2 months after beating it the first time.
