I'd travel back in time and invent the things in present day.

Think about it, Earth would be 54 years more advanced. (Although it wouldn't really be that good in the long run.)

But I'll be remembered as 'the guy who invented everything'.

I just want to go back and litter the 50's with internet memes. Wait, I think that's how the 60's actually got started...

Present, I'm female and love technology the past while it sounds nice and all the things I like are limited by the time and my gender.

No, by the time I reach today dates I would be in my 50's which I'm sure some of my health problem from being old may hinder me from playing today games (mainly my hands).

I'd need a husband, I don't think being a lesbian librarian would be a good thing back then. :p Ah well, all those women of my grandparent's generation were just called "housemates" and such. Everyone knew, but didn't care - two women living together wasn't seen as unusual or dirty back then. I loved meeting some of my gramma's friends, my mom would tell me they'd been together for like 40/50 years. So sweet.

... Yay tangent.

I also agree - I've only got a few close friends that I would miss and I'd be walking to the corner store and to and from work and such - would be nice. Except I'd move south so I wouldn't have to deal with winter.
Ahh too bad, though I'm sure there's a plethora of lovely male librarians around there too...somewhere...

Present- Girls, much more attractive.
However- If there were a way that I could bend the political system and end up ruling the world... Maybe... Maybe...
[small]But I have yet to meet one who can outsmart bullet.[/small]

Tough question. When I read the thread title I thought we were referring to neanderthals or medieval times or something.

But the 50's were America's hayday. I'm inclined to go back. Though the loss of video games would be tough.

I'm still looking. The few I've met are attached (and usually pretty stable, less the type to cheat), not attractive to me (or quite a lot older), or the better looking ones are gay. I still hope, though. Except that we'd be competing for jobs down the line - the business is pretty cutthroat these days with all the budget cuts.

I am now imagining librarians dueling for job opportunities; although I sympathise with your difficulty competing in the industry it's a great image!

I would take all the knowledge which came after '58 (presumably in a brief case or something) and-- this is important-- wear a "futuristic" jumpsuit. This will prove I'm from the future. I'll then bet on the right horses (not wearing the suit, that'd be a dead giveaway) and use my money to develop the technology I have the plans for. Then I would give some of this technological and monetary wealth to women, minorities, and people who aren't discriminatory. I would then create a TV show or something about two teams of 9 identical mercenaries each trying to kill each other for no good reason, and call it Team Fortress. Later, Valve shall make Team Fortress 2, the video game sequel.

Since I'm something other than a white heterosexual, gentile man, I think I'm best off staying far away from 1950's USA.

1958 is described a simpler time? Where the fuck do you get that from? So many of the inventions we consider common today that helps us live simpler lives were either not invented or a luxury back then. I like my modern technology and how easily we can afford it. I also like what technology has to offer when it comes to entertainment. I'd rather stay with the present condition rather than give up on things that give me entertainment. I also wouldn't want to miss The wheel of Times coming to its conclusion for any money in the world.

I'd do it. White male, have few friends, don't really have money for any decent tech in the present anyway. Plus I'd get to live through the 60s, the fucking SIXTIES, the only decade worth typing numerically AND spelling out in all caps. I'd get to live through the moon landings, the cultural revolution that took place, woodstock, vietnam, the civil rights movement, all the musical legends would be young again. How fucking cool would that be?

Plus all the horrible shit that has been going on recently and the even worse shit that's likely still to come will be over half a century off.

I'd stay in the present. Being both black and female, I'm sure going back then would be hell for me, regardless of what I know now.
