Must be the gamer in me. When I first read Romero's Zombie Romp I thought you meant John Romero.

World War Z, But he'd screw it up...
Actually Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment is currently working on World War Z with Marc Forster attached to direct. Plus if Romero did someone else's zombie movie...it would be like George Lucas trying to make a Star Trek movie.

I'd like to know how many other humans are left after Land of the Dead and how much further the "evolving zombies" can go, so maybe a sequel to that... ("Planet of the Dead" in your poll)?

Heh, maybe even a movie where the protagonists are intelligent zombies and the living humans are just an odd relic of the past, kept in zoos with the world being rebuilt by the undead community? That'd be funny.

-snip-
you haven't seen Omega Man or read the Original I Am Legend, have you :p
It's pretty much what you described, except the book is better than the film of it :p
still, it's a good film, and it's available on Xbox Live Marketplace for those who are interested.

Im bothered by the posters who think Romero should stop making new zombie movies. He can make whatever he wants so long as he has the money to do so, and the zombie public will eat the brains of everyone in sight if it means they get to watch the movies.

Romero doing a crappy zombie movie is much better than anyone else doing a crappy zombie movie-- land of the dead is amazingly crappy, for instance, but as a movie it stands up much better than ANYTHING you see on the Sci-Fi channel. Sorry, syfy. I discovered this when I found that it was given 3 stars (you know, clicking "info" when you have digital cable) but one of my favorite movies, Fallen with denzel washington, only got 2 stars.

I will continue watching Romero flicks as long as he continues making them.

I?m actually happy that some time a few years ago that Romero realized that he was practically the father of the modern zombie genera and that was the only place people were going to take him seriously and decided to stick to that as his medium. I have loved almost all of his zombie flicks (ufck Land of the Dead) and think that he does a great job using zombies flick for satirical purposes. My main concern is I don?t want him to do anything like Diary of the Dead again (great film but once is enough) and I?m also sick of this learning zombie business. Like he?s right when he pointed out that it?s been around since Day of the Dead but there it was kind of profound, in Land of the Dead it was just gay.

And to all the remake bashers: toss off. There was a great Night of the Living Dead remake in the 70 which was 1st class. Also I loved recent Dawn of the Dead remake which was bloody good fun (I do agree about most of the rest of the remakes being tripe though).

"A Dawn On The Day In The Diary During The Night Of The Dead."
Well that's a mouth full. And I can actually see that being used as a title of a movie, which is the sad part.
If you think that's a mouthful, check this one out:
Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Terror
This is a real movie by the way. Some idjits made a voice-over of Night of the Living Dead and it's credited as a real movie.

Neither, though I saw that I Am Legend movie which was pretty crappy in my opinion.
And while I don't know about Omega man, I Am Legend seems to be pretty much in the same spot as Land of the Dead in terms of "zombie-development". I'm wondering about further ahead.

oh, the Original I Am Legend book is. -nothing- like the film I Am Legend.
It's freaking Fantastic. I Highly Recommend It.
Because, as you said you were thinking of, it isn't just like zombies. it's a strange tale, but nonetheless a good one.

It also spawned a sequel titled "Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Revenge of the Terror of the Attack of the Evil, Mutant, Hellbound, Flesh-Eating Subhumanoid Zombified Living Dead, Part 3" which dubbed over "The Brain That Wouldn't Die".

Incidentally, "The Brain That Wouldn't Die" was actually a really good movie.

Well, it depends on the reason for watching it. I was watching it for camp humor on Halloween with a group of friends. In the humor value, it's quality to me. If the academy awards folks were watching it, it can be thrown away as poorly made crap.
