Project Eternity
"Project Eternity will take the central hero, memorable companions and the epic exploration of Baldur's Gate, add in the fun, intense combat and dungeon diving of Icewind Dale, and tie it all together with the emotional writing and mature thematic exploration of Planescape: Torment.

Combat uses a tactical real-time with pause system - positioning your party and coordinating attacks and abilities is one of the keys to success. The world map is dotted with unique locations and wilderness ripe for exploration and questing. You'll create your own character and collect companions along the way - taking him or her not just through this story, but, with your continued support, through future adventures. You will engage in dialogues that are deep, and offer many choices to determine the fate of you and your party. ...and you'll experience a story that explores mature themes and presents you with complex, difficult choices to shape how your story plays out."

Torment: Tides of Nurmenera
"Torment is a game of complex and nuanced morality, deep and reactive choice and consequence, and immersion into a new and strange vision. You will chart a course through bizarre dimensions, across the face of a vastly different world. You will earn companions along the way, and discover their value - perhaps through their strengths, perhaps more literally by selling them. Throughout it all, you will choose a path that will lead inexorably to an ending that stems naturally from your actions, facing adversaries who harness powers beyond your comprehension, and who will ultimately force you to face yourself and answer the question: What does one life matter?"

Divinity - Original Sin
"Divinity: Original Sin goes back to the values of memorable cRPGs: isometric, party based, turn based, gripping dialogues, choice and consequence, deep story, profound character and party development, a big interactive world filled with characters and items, systemic elements that create surprising behaviors, free exploration rather than linearity... There is only one main goal, and how you get there is completely up to you."

Suddenly the future seems a lot brighter.

Not much to add except that I really can't wait to play all those games!

Realistically Eternity will be awesome, but near-unplayable knowing Obsidian codemonkeys and ambition/deadline conflicts.

As a fan of RPGs... Can't say any of those really seem interesing to me. And that was from just reading the titles. Think I'll wait for my next Fallout or Mass Effect for an RPG I'll enjoy.

Well are you a fan of games like Neverwinter Nights, Baldur Gate, Fallout 1\2, Planescape: Torment? Because those games have the same main idea.

And yes. Fallout 4 will be awesome if it will ever happen...

Okay so after clicking the first two links I was disheartened by the fact that both pages only wanted me to hand over my money and use my facebook sharing skills to advertise their games but that's kickstarter for you. By the looks of it Obsidian has decided that the best way to rid their games of fun sucking bugs is to return to their roots and release something they're good at. It's not a bad idea but it's also not an innovative one. From what I can tell if you?re a fan of obsidians old work, or old RPG's for that matter, then you might want to keep tabs on this game but sadly I'm not really a fan of either, especially not after watching that video they made for kickstarter, so I'll pass.

Torment is based on a novel series of some sort but otherwise the developers don't really tell us any more than that, except that their game will be filled with choices and consequences which is something that's printed on the back of every other RPG game made these days. It's probably a bit too early to get excited/pass judgement on this game. Divinity- original sin's multiplayer aspect looks interesting and the rest seems standard RPG. All three games are somewhat appealing but I don't think I'd pick any of them up outside of a steam sale.

That's my biggest problem. I'm a huge cRPGs fan but in the last years we barely got a single game in this genre (in fact the only one I can think of is Dragon Age).

O__o Where's Wasteland 2?!
Indeed.

The lack of Wasteland 2 really throws me off, I look forward to the others but really, Wasteland 2?

I'd take that over those others any day.

Torment is the spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment, with all the writers coming together once again to make another game as deep as that. I only just recently played Planescape, but it was really, really good, and I have no doubts that Numenera will be as good if not better than Planescape: Torment.

I contributed $25 to Project Eternity, but I'm also really looking forward to Numenera. I don't see why people are so pessimistic about this, or the fact that Oblivion is responsible for PE. Sure their games have had bugs, but that's never been entirely their fault. More importantly, this is the PC so all of those bugs and other problems will be patched over within a few months, if not by the companies, then dedicated fans. I'm excited, it seems like a good time to be an RPG fan.

I'm supporting all three projects with a small amount and I can't really say for sure which one is the most likely to succeed.
I'm mentally prepared for half of the projects I'm backing to disappoint in some way, but it will still be totally worth it if the rest turns out well.

I've got the highest hopes for Shadowrun Returns. Modest goals and a proper demonstration of a scenario with turn-based combat, make this CRPG a good candidate for some oldskool glory, but it's not on the poll. Love the crazy setting too; very alternative stuff there, unlike the other three.

Project Eternity's real-time combat system may likely turn out to be a clusterfuck and I'm not entirely certain if the non-combat portions of the game will be able to carry the whole experience, so I can't vote that one for #1.

I vote Divinity. The devs have already shown off some decent demonstrations of the game and that inspires confidence. The game will be properly turn-based and their new party dialogue system is a novel idea that I think I'll enjoy.

I want all. Love Obsidian, love Larian (totally underrated studio, imo), and I hope to love inXile. Really looking forward to all 3 and all the other games that have emerged from the kickstarter-fueled CPRG frenzy. :D

Shadowrun Returns is my choice. I'd like it if it were on the list.

Second choice, Project Eternity.

Yeah, I was wondering why it was omitted; if the demo they offered was indication of the final game, it's definitely going to be a top contender for my Game of the Year.

Incidentally: I still haven't played Planescape: Torment. :\

Do you mean Project Awakened? That wasn't an RPG and didn't make the Kickstarter campaing, however, it's still going - I believe they have a page set up where you can still pledge.

It's a successor of Planescape: Torment which speaks volumes by itself. If I'm not mistaken, they would be writing novels based on it (and the setting), however, there isn't anything right now. There was a D&D setting called Planescape, if that's what you're thinking of, though.

Also you

and you have the same avatar and you confuse me. I'd like this matter settled - only one can have it, so there is only one course of action - fight to the death for my amusement. Just try not to spill blood in my popcorn.

OT: I pledged to all three of these. Out of them, I think I'm most excited about Eternity with Torment being second and Divinity following closely. And, of course, there are the other big names - Wasteland and Shadowrun, that I also await eagerly. I'm quite happy with what Kickstarter helped provide.

I'm excited for all of them. I only had the pennies to back two of them but Project Eternity is looking great so far. I'm a big fan of the old IE games.
