I've backed both Torment and Divinity, they're both looking pretty great. I don't want to get too hyped but they do really interest me with what they're trying to do. Especially Divinity with it's pretty unusual conversation system where you have to argue with your companions... so one of those I guess.

wheres the shadowrun love? its something a little different then "generic fantasy world" atleast in terms of its setting if not in terms of mechanics. but yeah, plenty og old-school (my god do i hate that word) RPGs about soon, infact i think people will soon be sick of them haha

Project Eternity is using real-time with pause combat? There goes whatever interest I had in that game.

You say that, but I absolutely despise games with an isometric camera. So the future still looks bleak.

Divinity looks quite interesting and provides unique roleplaying opportunities we dont see in games to often. Im actually quite excited for the game and they got $100 from me because I got to see so much of the potential gameplay in their pre-alpha through various youtube channels. I havnt been this interested in a kickstarter since FTL which turned out to be my favorite game of last year

From what Ive seen from wasteland I would not call it an RPG. I would call it a tactical strategy game. The extremely limited view I saw did not paint it in any way as a game with the potential to roleplay a character of your design in it. At this time I remain unimpressed

With Torment, it'll be good if its half the game that Planescape torment was. However living up to that legend will be incredibly difficult. Once again since we've seen almost nothing from the gameplay I dont know that the game will be roleplaying focused though I think its reasonable to expect it to be. That all said I hope it turns out to be amazing

Finally theres project eternity. I cant say anything about it because I dont think Ive seen any information about the game yet. I know what they want to do with it so I put some money into their kickstarter but I just havnt seen anything yet. Although to be fair its more me not having the time to keep up with it

So out of 3 games theres only 1 (Divinity) that I can currently confirm has roleplaying potential in it instead of just having "RPG mechanics" as the lure. For me, that doesnt inspire a lot of confidence

They all look amazing and I'll almost certainly end up buying and probably loving all of those.

Banner Saga is another project I'm paying close attention to as well. Plus another game called Chaos Chronicles is looking very promising as well.

The next few years are looking to be an amazing time for fans of old style PC rpgs.

Realistically Eternity will be awesome, but near-unplayable knowing Obsidian codemonkeys and ambition/deadline conflicts.
Considering they don't have a publisher breathing down their necks to pump a AAA game out in a year or less and that nothing about Project Eternity, from what little I've seen anyway, seems to be overreaching in terms of features, I'm not convinced that the usual issues Obsidian tends to have will rear their heads.

Wasteland 2; I love the pedigree, team behind it, and I'm totally going to have me and my GF bopping around the wastes.

As far as low budget WRPGs go, I'm more excited for Barkley 2 and the Banner Saga (it's a Turn-Based Strategy RPG, but w/e.) Besides Wasteland (sorry, guys, but meh) I'm excited for these too, but the prospect of a Planescape: Torment sequel is most exciting.

Also, fucking Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord.

But...

All of those are WRPGs. Some of us like JRPGs too! :(
Yeah I love JRPGs, I just wish someone would start porting Japanese style RPGs to the PC. XSeed does have some in the way of Ys, but it's pretty dry in PC land otherwise. Right now it seems like I'm going to be sticking with portables for my JRPG needs and use my PC for all the good Western Style ones.

Thank god for kickstarter or we would never get these old-school RPG's. I'm most hyped about Wasteland 2 but, all of those look pretty great.

It's a successor of Planescape: Torment which speaks volumes by itself. If I'm not mistaken, they would be writing novels based on it (and the setting), however, there isn't anything right now. There was a D&D setting called Planescape, if that's what you're thinking of, though.

Also you

and you have the same avatar and you confuse me. I'd like this matter settled - only one can have it, so there is only one course of action - fight to the death for my amusement. Just try not to spill blood in my popcorn.

OT: I pledged to all three of these. Out of them, I think I'm most excited about Eternity with Torment being second and Divinity following closely. And, of course, there are the other big names - Wasteland and Shadowrun, that I also await eagerly. I'm quite happy with what Kickstarter helped provide.[/quote]

My bad I read the website wrong haa and yes a good old VATS showdown for rights over the avatar!!! also the blood can replace the butter haa

Wanna know what I want to see?

Another Secret of Mana game. Or ANY Mana game, for that matter. And a Breath of Fire game. And maybe Square will get off of their fourth point of contact and let the fans have their Chrono Trigger Ressurection project.

Goddamn Chrono Trigger. My mind races with rage when I remember what happened with all of that.

Hell, I still believe that the Mana series could be a good MMO if done correctly.

That's my biggest problem. I'm a huge cRPGs fan but in the last years we barely got a single game in this genre (in fact the only one I can think of is Dragon Age).
It's a dying genre sadly. I found that as technology advanced developers started to move away from cRPGs to try new things and to maybe give people a break from the genre. Anyway long story short I like how developers are trying to bring back the genre but I can't see the genre being filled with anything more than a few indie games/Kickstarter funded titles.
PS: sorry if none of this makes sense

My sentiments exactly, despite the fact I contributed to both Eternity and Torment

I'm not going to change the picture that I have had for years, for new guy who's just joined this month and just happens to have picked the same one.
Not that I care about such things. For all I care everyone on these boards can carry the vault-tec logo and new members can go by such look-alike handles as ve1oper, vel0per and veloqer. A little confusing would be just the thing to make these boards more fun.

You refuse to get needlessly hyped up over yet-to-be-delivered titles and believe Obsidian to have a less than perfect track record?

You, sir, are no gamer.
