So I'm huge fan of RTS's mainly because its the only gerne that my computer lets my play, anything else and it makes the sound of a kitten in a grinder, but ever since I got a look at my cosion playing Empire Earth I fell in love with gerne. Its the building that stuck with me, carfully crafting each city just like I did with my logo town. Not to mention the more action oriented RTS, stragical(sometimes) leading your armies to victory and reciving that little cheer they do at the end.

Though like I said I love the building, to the point I mod games that don't let me rotate my buildings. Just to get a nicer feel.

The disscusion here lads and lass's(lass(s)?) is what is your favorite type of RTS?

I do like building. I had fun with Anno 1503 (I may have the year wrong) building up cities and trade routes and such, and I've always preferred to be left alone in games like Civilization. However, in games like Command & Conquer (the old Westwood ones, that is - really don't like the new era) I prefer to build an incredibly well defended base and then launch a massive offensive when I'm ready, not when my opponent is.

If I am fighting, though, by far the best game to do it on is Cossacks. Your maximum unit count is in the region of 1200! Building an army of that size and then launching them all at once is the most satisfying thing you can do on any RTS ever. It absolutely buttfucks the framerate but by god it's awesome!

I unconsiously go for the turtle strat EVERY TIME. I have to FORCE myself not to use it sometimes, since it really screws me over on zerg rushes.

I'm a slow strategic player with careful strategies and plans that allow me to unexpectedly suddenly steamroll my opponents. A lot of games don't reward this strategy as much as I'd like. I have really high hopes for RUSE though. It looks pretty awesome.

Im the worlds biggest RTS turtle. HUNKER DOWN BUILD A BILLION TURRETS AND SPAM LONG RANGE TROOPS! I never attack until "fortress inpregnable" is complete. Then my army of the best troops rolls accross the map.

I very much enjoyed Supreme Commander(The first one, not the second) for its economy system. It made you really consider what buildings you could build, as opposed to just seeing if you have the amount of resources you need to build it as even with 0 resource any building could still be done, just at a snails pace. I think this made the balance between war and base buildings very enjoyable. So I would say mix.

I like making a pretty base in C&C 3. It actually does help since with barrarks, war factory, tech buildings all evened out I don't have to worry so much about pathing.

I like to build a defence and send out small commando missions from my base. I'm not keen on rush tactics, super weapons or having limited types of units.

I'm desperately hoping Relic manages to make Dawn of War 3 not suck, because the second one did severely.

DoW 1 definitely redefined my favorite "type" of RTS, since its somewhat unique in the genre. A mix between building, teching and zone control without a specific focus on resource gathering. I liked the way it handled squads and squad caps for the most part and was really looking forward to seeing the system get a fresh overhaul in Dawn of War 2. Unfortunately Relic just decided to neuter everything good about the game and call it "more tactical", which would've been a serviceable claim had they actually quantified it in the game's design!

Bitter? Yeah, a little bit.

Well, in DoW my favourite army was the guard and in CoH it was the British, so 'turtle' would describe me best I think. While I feel DoW 2 was an ok game in of itself I much prefer 1...still at least it felt like you were paying for something new, from what I can tell Starcraft 2 is the same game as starcraft 1 with better graphics.

PS, just DL'd the Firestorm over Kaurava 3.6 beta Mod last night (ex F o Kronus). Awesomeness. Add the Daemonhunters, Witch hunters, adeptus collection, armageddon and steel legion mods and DC will fill all your 40K RTS wishes.

First off, how do the british play in CoH? I was going to buy the expanison off steam but choose soulstorm over it. So far worth it. Since its only 20$ though I'll still be getting it.

Second, do you have a link for that mod?

Im a turtle, atleast in Starcraft 2.
I sit in my base with a zealot & a sentry (For forcefield), Front door blocked off, scouting pylons around my base and cannons everywhere. Then I begin making void rays and phoenix and make people rage quit.

In Dawn Of War 1 I would play Dark Eldar (Until my friends refused to play with me if I'm Dark Eldar) and turtle in my base trying to get up the Dark Eldar ultimate unit (..Dice something?)
They were busy killing eachother off, then eventually they decided to try to team me.
Darklance time!
It eliminated an entire capped infantry army of orcs & space marines with one attack.
Good fun.

But to be honest, when I'm playing FFA games with 3+ people, I'm just sneaky in general.
They attack eachother and while their armies are caught up its cloaked unit time!
