Rule complimentary urbandictionary.com, under "Old Rules of the Internet."

Citing aside, look at all the objects of hate there are out there on the internet.

Lady Gaga. Hannah Montana. Jonas Brothers. Disney as a whole. Twilight. Star Wars 3. Halo. etc.

But it seems that no matter how much we hate them and point out their obvious flaws, these things just keep getting popular. Is our hate doing that? Is it because that we say these things are so bad that forces people to believe that they must be good (in sort of a negative-hype way)? Or are they're really external factors behind it? (Please don't say the media, because thats the obvious choice, and while I'd like to believe that I can blame the media for everything, part of me knows that it can't be.)

It's not true in all cases. Actually, maybe it is. Everyone hates something, so everything is bound to get stronger eventually, correct?

Maybe the idiots think we're the idiots.
And the more we yell, the more we look like old priests yelling at a bunch of prostitutes that they shouldn't use birth control.

I put yes and i can say thats true from seeing people that are always hearng about this or that being bashed so they decide to go out of their way to try and like it, its happened on escpaist a former striaght male watched twilight and then liked it he doesn't know he'll neve recover from it tsk tsk tsk. It could also be that someone was completely overexagerating the stupidity of an above mentioned hated "series" and the person decides its not really that bad and doesn't understand wtf everybody is complaining about.

Well partly I'm sure some of twilight's success is linked to all the hatred it attracts, I read it because everyone was talking about it (both positive and negatively). Similar thing with other popular items. Though its possible it only attracts hatred in the first place due to its success.

Anything that raises attention for something will expose that thing to more people. Some of whom will be idiots! Also expressing dislike for something will cause those that like it to become more vocal in response

EDIT: To clarify, discussing something, arguing about it, expressing dislike for it etc. all raise attention of that thing.

People on the internet are dicks.
Dicks attempt to get your goat by annoying you with the thing you hate most.
You post how bad some thing is.
Dicks come in and start posting repeatedly how good it is.
Thing becomes popular because you brought it up.
You realize you gave life to the thing you hate most and hang yourself.
End of story.

It's probably psychological. If you are apathetic to something, you won't notice how often people mention it, because you don't care. But when you hate something, you tend to notice whenever it comes up.

you sir, win an internet

Sounds good. In that case, I've decided that anyone who doesn't amuse me gets to switch to dail-up from now on.

Wait, I don't think I have room in my house for an Internet. Maybe if I put it in the garage...

Someone once told me he hated something a lot on the internet so I checked it out. I liked it. That's how this works

People don't like success. It's why the most successful sporting clubs are often the most hated by all of the other clubs in the particular disciplene. People see something succesful, think 'why couldn't I have done that?' and become jealous, which can lead to hate when they're repeatedly exposed to something popular. And of course, the more popular things are, the more exposure they get and the more people dislike them because they're forced to deal with them all of the time.

Looking at your list, I hate none of those things, although living in Australia compared to America does expose you to a different sort of culture. But then again I've been exposed very little to most of those things, so as people have been saying = being around successful popular people or shows or whatever does tend to lead towards disliking them. It's just a fact of human nature.
