Yes it is true. The more you hate something, the more you care about it. Thus you're only adding to its popularity.

If you hate something but want to weaken it, stop hating it. Stop caring about it at all. Apathy is just as strong a force and can be much more damaging when used correctly.

Gasp! Maybe it's that people have differing opinons about things and your opinion doesn't match up with the opinions of other people!! Did I just blow your mind???

On a side note why the hate on Lady Gaga? What did she do to deserve so much internet scorn? I don't like her music but at least she's one of the few pop singers that actually well...you know sings...

And this pretty much summarizes the thread. G'night, folks.

I am indifferent to these things. Don't even know what half of them are. What's a lady gaga? Some kid's toy like furby?

I'd say anything that becomes popular has some folks who are upset that what they like is not popular or just want to be contradictory. I can not think of a single thing that 100% of people like.

No. I'd say because you hate it, you're going to notice it more...so obviously, every little time you see something you despise -coughHannahMontanacough- then it's going to stand out more versus something you don't hate quite as much.

I think I might have gone in just one big circle there...o_O

I believe the only external factor is all people inherently hate themselves and each other. So they see something most people thing are bad and rationalize it as good, thus destroying good music, games, movies etc. That or people are just stupid.

Why would anyone hate Lady GaGa? She's a great songwriter who has worked hard to achieve critical and mainstream success, is a good piano player, and has created a character all her own?

It must be black magic.
Especially Twilight. WHY WON'T IT FUCKING DIE!?!?
But the same is true for things you DO like.
For example, my friend had never heard of Megaman until I let him play Megaman X.
So it's not entirely true. Everything you like or hate grows stronger based on the intensity of that like/hate.

Its the opposite actually...

Halo is a good game.
Good game becomes popular.
So much popularity causes people to naturally 'rebel' against the norm
ORR!!
People get tired of others constantly bumming it and take it out on the game.

The game didn't start off with negative views!

...And on the other topics - they just gained popularity and with popularity you will inevitably get the negative popularity.

On the topic though! I do want to watch Twilight - Heard that its terrible (Lol to shiny vampires)

I guess you're not.

And putting restrictions on my initial statement would have made it much less quotable, apparently.

Give me one person who hates Star Wars, give me a baseball bat, and lock me in a room with them, and by the time we both come out, lets just say, they will LOVE Star Wars........

Because I would explain to them why it is an enjoyable series, and then, I would give them a baseball bat as a farewell gift.
