I'm wondering if anyone else joined the open beta of RUSE on steam?
I've been playing it for the last few hours, and it's really grabbed me. The game has that board game feel, but at the same time it's an rts.
I'm not sure how balanced it all is, but there's alot of content. Sure its WWII again, but honestly I don't recognise most of the stuff.
The ruses are like these special ability cards you can use. There no fog of war by default unless your units are hiding in forests. (In which case you'll have to keep track of them in your head.) So the ruses, hide units, create fake ones, fake buildings, or reveal enemy units, or even reveals enemy orders. There's 3 odd ones out, one to increase unit speed, and one to create terror and make units flee, and one to harden the resolve of your units.
The maps are great, I only play on the bigger ones, 6 or 8 player, and the games go from 40mins to 60mins. There's a timer on games and the winner is decided by some kinda points system, which I dont exactly understand right now, but i think you get awarded points for killing stuff, so a good defence is usually a better tactic, but if your offence is good enough, and you get to the enemy base you'll cripple them.
The buildings seem really weak, all the units infact are very weak, but with high damage. Makes for cautious attacks.
So that's all I have to say about it, what do you think? Have you tried it yet?
