At some point recently they actually started up the second season, not sure if it's finished yet. But yeah it seems to be popular enough to hold on.

Meh, I can't get into it. I tried, heck I tried more than once.

To me it's just another "Like Adventure Time but" show. Similar animation, similar themes and lessons, similar humor. Heck, it even has the hipster creator singing the show's intro like Adventure Time.

Gravity Falls is basically the same thing. These shows are alright, I'd never call them bad. But the style of humor is just, i dunno. It doesn't catch me.

I'll stick to MLP. Though I will say it's nice that Western animation is making a resurgence on CN. So if you enjoy that, good for you.

I like Steven Universe, but as for best currently running Western children's animation, I'll jump on the bandwagon and give it to Gravity Falls, the setting and jokes just work really well for me.

MLP still occupies my #2 spot as it still provides a good mix of pop culture references, interesting high fantasy setting that isn't stuck in medieval times tech wise, and simple but interesting enough plots to keep me entertained, as well as a fascinating animation style that has noticeably and drastically improved as seasons go on.

I suppose that would put SU at around the number 3 spot, up there with Adventure Time, as far as kids shows go. Judging all Western animation messes the order up as the likes of Archer are definately up there. For me, cartoons are something I put on in the background when I'm doing laundry, cooking, or paying bills, so for me, the best cartoons are ones that can keep me entertained while I'm only half paying attention.

It is nice that Western animation has gained some great to good shows within the last few years, around 2005-2010 we were going through kind of a quality Western animation drought, it wasn't dead, but it really seemed anemic compared to the late 90's early 2000's and downright desolate compared to the early to mid 90's.

*looks it up* If <link=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Randy_Cunningham:_9th_Grade_Ninja_episodes#Season_2_.282014.E2.80.93present.29>wikipedia has anything to say about it, it looks like episode 18 of Season 2 will premiere on May 11...

Well, in defense of Steven Universe's intro song, the creator only wrote the song and, I think, only sung it for the unaired pilot episode... Otherwise, it's the main cast that's singing the intro theme every episode...

Nah, I tried watching it recently but it didn't 'click' with me. Almost wish it had over the other, rather embarrassing children's show I watched that did 'click'. (lets just say a couple of people's avatars in this thread feature characters from it):D

And yes Gravity Falls is awesome :D

Can't stand the show to be honest. I prefer Gravity Falls or Adventure Time.

From what I've seen it's nice. I am more a straight comedy kinda guy, so Amazing World of Gumball is pretty awesome. The timing and references mixed with the mixing animation styles makes it really unique. Best of all, it's gotten better as the seasons have progressed.

I'm not sold on it, though I will give it more of a chance since I have only seen a little so far. I don't think it's going to ever be a "best" for me, though. MLP:FiM still sits at number one for me, followed closely by Gravity Falls.

It's a "great" show and an "important" show, but I wouldn't call it the "best". To me that's a little like asking "Is Call of Duty the best video game?" certainly CoD gets damn good sales and lots of games try to be like it, but in the end, multiple games are the "best" and it's a matter of personal opinion whether a game like Skyrim is better than CoD.

I really love Steven Universe, Gravity Falls and Star vs the Forces of Evil, they're all great for their own reasons.

What's really annoying is that two of Disneys only worthwhile shows are two they seem to want to do everything to kill by refusing to give them a reliable schedule. Though I'm wondering if that's on Disney just not wanting to give them a fair run or the people who actually work on making the cartoons being unable to churn out completed episodes in a timely manner.
Gravity Falls runs on half hour long episodes as opposed to 15 minute episodes. You notice Cartoon Network shows only one 15 minute episode a week for most of their shows? Disney on the other hand will show one 30 minute episode or in the case of Star, two fifteen minute episodes. That may be partly why the schedule is so strange. Disney's schedule demands more for one showing, but CN's is more ideal for spreading episodes out over a longer period of time.

Well. The creator of Steven Universe is Rebecca Sugar, who is also a writer/animator for Adventure Time. So that would explain the similarities.

Yeah, I heard about that. I dunno. Like I said I tried to get into it, but I couldn't. It just didn't grab me the way MLP did, and that show is still going strong as far as I'm concerned.

To me a lot of these newer shows are doing the whole self-aware/snarky humor. Lot's of winks and nods, and a little bit of Irony. I'm not into that. Admittedly I didn't see it too much in Steven Universe, but it's there. Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, and Regular show have it the most.

It's just that kind of self aware lampshading that gets under my skin a bit. It's just not for me.
