Recently, for the Steam Halloween Sale, I bought two STALKER games, Shadow of Chernobyl and Call of Pripyat and I have two questions:

First, which game should I play first? "SoC" was the first game to come out, but I remember in a review hearing that, I think, "CoP" was basically a better version of "SoC". It's been a while since I read the review. But anyway, should I play "Chernobyl" or "Pripyat" first?

And now for the more interesting question: I know from the reviews that the games are buggy. PC Gamer Magazine's mod section had some mods for one of the two games, but that was a year or two ago and that issue is now lost. Basically, what are some good mods for both games? I also heard that there was a mod to put the original Russian voices back into the game. Does anyone know where to find that?

Thanks! :D

Call of Pripyat is a prequel to Shadow of Chernobyl but it ties into SoC without much explanation, since it expects you to have already played SoC first, so if you want to understand what's going on in CoP you should play SoC first, it has a lot more explanation about what the zone is and why the hell everything is all fucked up.

Edit: Whoops mixed up CoP with Clear Sky. CoP is actually the sequel to SoC, which is even more of a reason to play SoC first.

I say go with the original first. It will help you get used to the feel of the game (and it is just plain awesome besides). When playing it, don't forget to install STALKER Complete [http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-complete-2009] first. The mod fixes a ton of bugs, greatly improves the graphics, and adds a lot of nice bonus items. Don't play without it.

I'm actually going to vote COP. Its definitely easier to get into and it'll prepare you for SOC as its still hard.

No, Clear Sky is the prequel. Call of Pripyat is about what happened after the first game.

It also fixes some of the broken stuff implemented in Clear Sky, and it has daily emissions, which are terrifying and extremely cool.

actually you should play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. clear sky first as its the first in the in-game timeline and second chronologically then S.T.A.L.K.E.R. shadow of chernobyl then S.T.A.L.K.E.R. call of pripyat, all the games are good but in my opinon the first game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. shadow of chernobyl is the best as it is larger more detailed in regards to motivations and not as liner as the other too, however it does miss out on some of the innovations from the other two such as the dectectors and the ability to purchase high-end tech like the exo-suit, so yeah go S.T.A.L.K.E.R.!! heres hoping for a fourth installment :)

Chernobyl.
Also, you have to play it with the Stalker Complete 2009 mod. It fixes bugs, cleans up translations, and makes it look a bit better. Fully reworked game.

I tried the Complete mod and, yeah it was nice, but then I discovered the Atmosphere 3 mod and holy shit that's one saucy graphics mod. Sure you don't get the rebalance but it looks so pretty.
